Pakistan's premier student-run adventure society, LAS is dedicated to treading paths untrodden and scaling new heights each year. As a testament to our 23 year old legacy of adventure, LAS members decided to explore the relatively untouched areas of Kalam and Chitral during our very recent Summer Trek'17 via the Dadreli Pass- one of the most strenuous passes in the region, which took them to a height of 5030m.

With the help of Guide Abbas Jaffer, along with porters Abrar, Akhtar, and Sher Ali, a team of five LAS members led a expedition and summited Rush Peak (5098m) after trekking across Hopper Glacier and Barpo Glacier to Berichokot campsite, then to Rush Lake (4694m) the highest alpine lake in Pakistan. They reached the top of Rush Peak on 25th August before descending to Phai Peri campsite and journeyed through Sumayar and Miar glaciers to campsite Hamdar. Their six-day adventure ended with a return to Hopper Valley.

On the 18th of August, 2022, 10 members of the Lums Adventure Society departed on their summer excursion.

The 8-day long trek started from the Passu village and involved traversing the 57-kilometer-long Batura Glacier, the seventh largest glacier in the world.

The society members then ascended to 4200 metres to reach the summit of Lupghoz peak before making their way back to Passu via the Batura Glacier.

With the unparalleled hospitality and support of guides, porters and the rest of the LAS community up north, LAS was able to set new records and reach greater heights this year.

Lums Adventure Society is partnering up with the Alkhidmat foundation to gather funds for communities in the northern areas of Pakistan who have been severely affected by the devastating floods caused by monsoon rains. Alkhidmat is an organization that has been at the forefront of the flood emergency and has a vast network of camps set up across the affected regions that allow them to disseminate supplies effectively.

For the past 24 years, our friends in the north have shown unparalleled hospitality to the LUMS community and have been at the backbone of LAS’s greatest achievements. The guides, porters, jeep drivers and cooks make up our travel fraternity and we must give back to them in these desperate times. Our extensive network in the northern areas also allows us to gauge the on-ground situation and understand the requirements of the victims.

Our primary focus at this time is to send immediate monetary relief to support the verified families that are in contact with us. We also want to ensure shelter in the form of tents and emergency camps for communities that have been forcibly displaced from their homes. The integrated network of Al khidmat will help us in setting up shelters and in the disbursement of funds. Lums Adventure Society will be giving timely updates of all developments via society members and volunteers of Alkhidmat that will be present on-ground.
