The Oldest Monument in Gilgit-Baltistan The 140 household Altit Khun lies almost underneath in a protective embrace.

The superbly sited Altit Fort sits elongated atop two major boulders cresting a thousand feet over the untamed Hunza River. The Fort meant to dominate the historic Silk Road to Kashgar now commands the Karakoram Highway (KKH) with the Haldeikish (Ganish Sacred Rocks) also visible on the other side of the river.
