Mayank (India)🇮🇳️: My name is Mayank Anand. Well… I come from a country of culture and diversity – India. I’m 19. Joining UMCS is one of my best life decisions and I am very confident about it. The journey up till now has been adventurous and amazing and just the way I wished. Joining Tourism Management was always one of my interests - it gives me the best platform to do something out of the box, especially in avoiding those boring 9-5 jobs. With UMCS, I see a secure future for myself.

May in Poland begins with a series of national celebrations. The three days: 1st, 2nd and 3rd of May are together called "Majówka". Over that period a lot of Poles like to take a city break and enjoy the extended weekend. Remember that on 1st and 3rd May (public holidays) shops will be closed.

1 May – Labour Day 💪
2 May – National Flag Day 🇵🇱
3 May – Constitution Day 📜
Classes resume on 7th May 2018.

Natacha (Rwanda):🇷🇼️ My nationality is Rwandese and I am 18 years old. My interests are: basketball, spending time with friends, interacting with people around me, praying, learning new things and striving to always improve myself into a better person than I am now. Most importantly, I love helping people and making myself useful in the society and leave a legacy behind me. My motivation to studying Tourism Management is that I love the environment and would like to help people see the beauty of nature and how to gain from it without destroying it.

EASTER 🐣🐥🐣
Easter celebrations end in Poland on Easter Monday (Poniedziałek Wielkanocny / Lany Poniedziałek) when the cruel tradition of Śmingus-Dyngus is performed. Traditionally, boys throw water over girls (gentlemen use perfume) and s***k them with p***y willow branches. Every Polish girl and woman fears this day as this tradition is often abused and there is no way you can get away with getting soaking wet! The most popular tools for this horrible custom are water guns and large buckets.

Poland is a country full of unique traditions. As Easter is the most important holiday, even more than Christmas, we would like to introduce you a few things about it so you get chance to be part of it and understand it a bit.

SATURDAY
Blessing of the Easter baskets

Probably one of the most enduring and beloved Polish traditions on Holy Saturday – not only in Poland but also within Polish communities all around the world. The name of this custom might sounds mysterious but it’s nothing more than blessing the food that will be eaten during the Easter feast. Of course, you won’t spot people bringing tables full of many traditional dishes right to the front of the church (it would be funny though) instead, a small amount of the most important food like eggs, bread, meat and butter are put inside the basket. It’s a very important tradition in Polish culture so you can often spot entire families participating in it.

👮‍♂️👮‍♂️👮‍♂️Meeting with a Police officer from the Prevention Department of the Municipal Police in Lublin for international students.👮‍♂️👮‍♂️👮‍♂️

With student safety in mind, the International Student Office is organising a meeting with a Police representative on
‼️‼️Wednesday, March 14th, 2018 at 11:30‼️‼️
The meeting will be held in the Conference Room at the Femina Student Residence Hall.

In the meeting, you will learn the following:

the structure and organisation of the Police in Poland,
the rights and obligations you have under the Polish law,
how to react and seek help in an emergency,
how to take care of your own safety.

📣📣📣Participation is obligatory for first year English-speaking students who started their education at UMCS in the academic year 2017/18.📣📣📣

The meeting will take approximately 30-45 minutes.
