Why does PRMTA provide a priority boarding classification to the residents of Vieques and Culebra?
Because residents of Vieques and Culebra depend on this mass maritime transportation service to move from their islands of residence to the main island of Puerto Rico, PRMTA has the responsibility of guarantying their mobility among their Island of residence and the main island of Puerto Rico. As of the geographical location of both islands municipalities, ACT 86 of 1997, as amended, grants them priority access to travel from their island of residence to the mainland and vice versa. Nevertheless, providing transportation services to all passengers is the mission of PRMTA, thus daily schedules are planned also taking into consideration the needs of visitors and tourists in order to provide the most complete possible service.
