PORTUGAL COVID 19 CASE RATE CONTINUES TO FALL FOR THE FIFTH CONSECUTIVE WEEK.
The latest figures released by the ECDC, ( European Centre for Disease Control) for Portugal show that the 14 day rate of infection per 100,000 of population has again fallen considerably this week from 108.13 to 87.9 cases per 100,000 of population.
With the average across the EU/EEA rising this week from 147.08 in the past week, to 150.63 Portugal is now well below the average for the region. This week the country with the highest incidence of Covid 19 is still Lithuania with an increasedcase rate of 795.54 compared to 645.68 last week. Next highest is Estonia (658.53). The country with the lowest rate of infection in the week continues to be Poland but with an increased rate per 100,000 of 34.91 showing another rise. Portugal is now one of just 10 countries which have a rate lower than 100 cases per 100,000 in the region.
While the decrease in the case rate for Portugal has been considerable, there is also good news that the rate of deaths due to covid 19 per 1 million population continues to drop from 8.64 to 8.35 this week. Bulgaria, for the fourth week running saw an increase from 139.11 deaths per 1 million of population to 145.29 and still has the highest rate in the EU/EEA. The average across the region has risen slightly again this week from 17.13 to 1deaths per million of population to 18.03.
