The Royal Mausoleum of Mauretania is a funerary monument from the first century B.C., located on the shore of the Mediterranean Sea, in modern day Algeria.
The mausoleum was built by the last King of Numidia, and later King of Mauretania, Juba II, and his wife Cleopatra Selene II, as their final resting place.
She was an Egyptian-Greek Ptolemaic princess, the daughter of Queen Cleopatra VII of Egypt and Roman Triumvir Marcus Antonius.
Big efforts have been made to preserve the monument, after a long history of neglection and even destruction. The French Foreign Legion even used the monument for artillery target practices.
