Discover the playful and inquisitive nature of the golden monkey, a beautiful little creature found only in the high-altitude forests of the Volcanoes National Park. Spend the morning searching the lush vegetation at the foot of Mount Sabyinyo for one of two habituated groups of golden monkey, one of them a troop of more than 80 members. Spend an enchanted hour watching their frolics as they leap among the slender shoots of bamboo or tumble among the dense foliage on the forest floor.

Best time to go gorilla trekking in Rwanda
Gorilla treks in Volcanoes National Park are available throughout the year, but the best time to go for a tour is during the dry seasons which are from June to September and December to February. The wet season, which is considered the low season, is usually avoided by most travelers. However, it might be a good opportunity to take advantage of reduced prices.

What To Expect On A Gorilla Safari
On the day of your trek, expect to leave your comfortable bed early enough, am move to the briefing point by 7:30am. After briefing, tourists will be allocated different tracking routes, each 8 tourists. Head to the forest accompanied by guides and rangers as you begin you search for gorillas.
In the forest, you may see monkey species, butterfly species, mammals and so much more. Sometimes the forest is challenging and a good level of fitness will be required. At the end of the day, expect to be muddy and sweaty.
Once you see the gorillas, its okay to take photos with your camera or iPhone but avoid flash or else the gorillas might charge. You will spend between 40 minutes and 1 hour in company of these gentle giants. It will be such a life changing experience.

Dian Fossey would have been 92 years old today,
Before she was murdered on Dec. 26, 1985, Dian dedicated her life to saving mountain gorillas.
As the mountain gorillas reached a population low of about 240 individuals, she worried they would be extinct by the year 2000, but her sacrifice and legacy have ensured their survival today.

Gorilla twins are extremely rare and occur in only approximately 8% of gorilla births. When twins are born, they are closely observed to ensure their safety and well-being. Isango Gakuru and Isango Gato from Hirwa group are now 12 years old and are becoming silverbacks, which is a natural part of their development.
