I'm learning something new about Singapore every day! ๐ธ๐ฌ Has anyone shopped at Silo Supermarket before? Silo stands for the Singapore Industrial Labour Organisation and they set up emporiums and supermarkets in the 1970s alongside the ones by NTUC called NTUC Welcome then. In 1981, it merged with NTUC and that resulted in the NTUC FairPrice we know now! ๐ A receipt of $9.10 dated 19 Nov 1975 was clipped to this Silo Supermarket Anniversary lucky draw form, but never filled in or submitted. Who knows, the shopper could have won the top prize of a Philips Portable TV set! ๐๐ค๐

This National Day, take a walk around Gillman Barracks with my dad and Encounter.sg ! ๐ธ๐ฌ ๐ Once a strategic base for the defence of Singapore and much larger than it is now, the barracks was taken over by the Combat Engineers of SAF after the British left in 1971. We're extremely honoured to have been part of the production of Oh Butterfly! The rain ain't going to ground these planes! ๐ซ ๐ Vintage Matchbox Ring Raiders from 1988! Basically they're aeroplanes on rings - the darker ones are known as the Skull Squadron๐(cool name!) and flown by the baddies. The good guys fly the colourful planes (of course ๐) Just wear them on your hand and make them fly! โ๏ธ We have a limited number of them in the shop for sale, make an appointment to purchase!

Map reading skills were essential for a tourist in the past, and for $1.50 (last time ๐) you could pick up this Singapore Tourist Map Guide published by PL Chang and distributed by Rex Bookstore! ๐งญ There's no mention of which year this was published but we've zoomed in on some details so you can guess - like the Princess Elizabeth Estate in Hillview, the listing of 4 attractions in the West and the map of Queenstown where our shop is! Sentosa was already named so we're guessing this is from the 1980s but pre-MRT ๐ธ๐ฌ Vintage Singapore map available at the shop, make an appointment to purchase!
