If you are interested in history of Bohinj area visit the Tomaž Godec Museum. The museum in Bohinjska Bistrica bears the name of the former owner of the house, Tomaž Godec (1905–1942). Two permanent museum collections are on display: the Leatherworking Museum with a preserved home workshop and the Little War Museum of the Soča (Isonzo) Front 1915-1917, illustrating the two First World War front lines which ran through the area.

How did Bohinj get its name? A legend.
Once upon a time when God was dividing the world among people, and having divided almost all of it, he noticed a group of people standing by the side and not struggling to get to the front. He took pity of them, seeing how patient and modest they were. Therefore he gave them the most beautiful part of his own world. This is now called Bohinj – after God, who is called “boh” by the Bohinj people.
