HAPPY 75TH ANNIVERSARY OF HUMAN RIGHTS DAY established in 1948 with the 2023 theme “Freedom, Justice and Equality for All".
As we across the globe recognize today the 10th day of December as Human Rights Day, let us not take for granted the many sacrifices that were made globally to secure many of the hard fought rights and freedoms many enjoy today, especially here within the Turks and Caicos Islands. Most especially the continued advocacy for women and children.
As a trained facilitator of Darkness to Light, Stewars of Children to bring awareness and train others on child sexual abuse and an active advocate for women and children empowerment and troubled youth. This occasion is very special to me.
We should all be in constant pursuit of how we can give unselfishly to making the world in which we live a better and safer place, giving emphasis to the basic human right to live in a free society from anger and discrimination. More must be done in the home and at the community level in being our brothers', sisters' and neighbors' keepers. It is important that as a society we build a culture of intolerance to gender violence and child abuse and in the process, build a hedge of protection around these two vulnerable groups and others, to promote public education and heighten general public awareness about this social scourge that is an existential threat to the strength of the fabric of our Turks and Caicos Islands society.
There is much to be done and I encourage us all to get involved in this national and international fight and become a beacon of light in the darkest corners of the world and our nation. I stand in solidarity with nations of goodwill around the world and organizations.
As a former independent candidate in the 2020 general elections where my motto was UPP: “Unity, Protect and Perserve” being the voice “Faith, Hope and Love” it is an individual quest to promote "Freedom, Justice and Equality for all" it is not just an abstract ideal and fleeting illusion, but a daily living and breathing reality in all that I get involved in.
Happy Human Rights Day.
