Beautiful in their own way.
One of the fascinating aspects of the wildlife of Africa is the distinctive colours and patterns on show, and behaviour associated with each animals that sometimes compliments the colouring.
-
All individuals within a mammal species have distinctive characteristics, making them distinguishable from each other (just like fingerprints in humans). In many species these individual characteristics are not immediately obvious. In lions for example, where the colour is uniform, researches identify individuals by the whisker spots.
-
The differences in individual leopard and cheetah may not be immediately obvious due to the plethora of spots. However, upon closer inspection of the skin patterning, unique individual markings may be identified. Unique individual patterns on the skin are more obvious in species such as zebra, wild dog and giraffe where the patterning is more pronounced.

The cubs of this age rely on their mothers for food and security. If you look at the condition of these cubs, you will notice that they’re very healthy. This proofs that their mama and other pride members take good care of the cubs. This must be a very successful pride of lions. Cub’s role at this age is to learn and become the best team players as they’re aging up.
-
There are about 300 different prides!! Lions numbered from 3500-4000 in the whole serengeti...a pride can range in number from 3 -7 females with one male.

What an interaction!!! Despite the big size and ability that elephants have, surprises can make them panic a bit-considering that they have young ones in the herd. Even warthog can change their movement for a few seconds until they identify the query. Elephants are highly intelligent animals and like to learn and study their surroundings for their safety-don’t surprise them....

Two Maasai Warriors

Our guide Matthew pulled over to chat with this young boy. Matthew is also Maasai, growing up and becoming a warrior like this boy, he then began to study Tanzania’s wildlife and tourism. He’s also worked and studied in Kenya and South Africa. Endlessly fascinating, he has the most incredible stories and charismatic personality. It’s safe to say he was a big reason for making our trip so one of a kind. Covid has hit this industry so so hard. Matthew has started his own company, , and I couldn’t recommend him more if you’re considering a trip to one of my favorite places in the world.

-
Thank you Chatlotte...we really appreciate it! Covid has been extremely kind to Tanzania. Life without covid and lock down has been a blessing!

THE TOP 5 RAREST ANIMALS IN TANZANIA
-
Tanzania is the ideal place for an animal lover to vacation. There is more wildlife here than in most of the world, and many species are rare or endangered. When you visit Tanzania, these are five of the rarest animals that you could see on your safari
adventure.
-
1. African Wild Dog
The African Wild Dog is considered to be critically endangered, but it has been making a comeback in recent years. These animals can be seen on occasion in Tarangire during the dry season. They tend to be very elusive and wary.
-
2. Caracal
This beautiful cat is sometimes called the African Lynx. It has distinctive ear tufts that set it apart from the other big cats of Tanzania. The caracal can be seen every once in awhile stalking the grasses of the Serengeti, but it is very shy and elusive. It often disappears into thick cover.
-
3. Striped Hyena
While spotted hyenas are the most numerous predators on the Serengeti, the striped hyena is very rarely seen. These shy animals usually only leave their den when it is completely dark. A camping safari is a great way to increase your chances of spotting one of these beautiful animals.
-
4. Black and White Colobus Monkey
The black and white colobus monkey is rarely seen. It inhabits a very thin stretch of forest on the banks if the Grumeti River on the edge of the Serengeti. These animals are a joy to see because of their playful natures.
-
5. East African Oryx
The East African Oryx is the most endangered animal in the Serengeti ecosystem. They can most often be seen searching for water during the dry season in Tarangire. Graceful and lithe, the East African Oryx is a marvelous sight to see.
There are many rare and endangered animals to be seen in Tanzania. The best part of a safari is seeing an animal in its natural habitat when you would never get a chance to see it otherwise.

Elephants’ Unique Pregnancy!

The female elephant normally gives birth to a single calf, unless she has twins. Female elephants might give birth every five years, and continue to mate until about the age of 50. The female elephant’s pregnancy will last up to 23 months, longer than many other animals. When she does give birth, the calf can weigh anywhere from 200 to 320 pounds.
-
Standing and Feeding the Calf!

Within an hour after arriving, the newborn calf is able to stand. A few hours later, the newborn elephant is walking. After learning to stand on its own four feet, the calf’s next goal is to find its mother’s breast and begin nursing. Calves nurse for about four years, with mother’s milk being its mainstay for the first six months of life. The calf curls its trunk over its head which enables its mouth to reach the mother’s milk. A young elephant begins grazing on grass and other foliage between the ages two to six years.

The pangolin is probably the most unfortunate animal you’ve ever heard of. It currently reigns supreme as the most trafficked animal on the planet! -
Pangolins look like reptiles. They have scales and scurry across the ground looking for insects. Anyone can be forgiven for believing they are reptiles.
-
However, pangolins are mammals.
They have scales and scurry across the ground looking for insects. Anyone can be forgiven for believing they are reptiles.
-
However, pangolins are mammals. They are the only mammal species completely covered in scales. These scales are used for protection against the many predators of the African savannah.
-
Pangolins can grow to over one metre in length. They can tip the scales at an impressive 18 kg, although 10-15 kg is standard for both males and females.
-
They are slow animals. Usually a pangolin will roam around on all fours, at a speed not much faster than a tortoise. But they can stand on two feet and run as well, with their long tail used as a support.

Creating long lasting happy memories is the most rewarding when going on safari...especially when children are involved.
-
Having children go on safari requires special type of guide. A guide that understands kids! A guide that can show them the secrets of the bush, knowledge of wildlife and expose them to the cultural differences in a way that brings joy and wonder to the childrens eyes...a priceless experience!!
-
Mathew received a self made book by the children as a thank you gift after returning home from there safari.
A truly heart warming gift. A perfect thank you from a group of special kids!

SPIRIT ZEBRA_poem
-
A master magician at hiding
While running and gallantly striding
Your message is strong, you gallop along. With spirit continually guiding
-
Independent you move with the group
Making headway you learn to recoup
Ready to bolt, to rebel and revolt
If your light should get caught in a loop
-
Your harmony steadies in trouble
A clean break away from all struggle
Lessons are taught, even when you're distraught. As you truly embrace them and juggle
-
When problems arise in the east skies. You remember the sun also dies. And though it falls down, it comes back around. To greet us the next day with bright eyes
-
Spirit Zebra be with us to find
Let our strength and our courage unwind. Into all of the holes, deep in our souls. That we carry throughout our lifetime
-
Teach us patience to love every side
So that we may enjoy how we ride
Some days we will glow, some days will be low. Love will teach us to rise not subside
-
To see everything, just as it is
To live the truth of this regardless
Return stronger yet, from any upset
With a chance for new growth and progress
-
You teach us to seek balance and truth. Till the end of our days from our youth. Standing confidently, strong as can be. Building skills that will calm us and soothe
-
With every step forward we've taken
Your wisdom unfolds and awakens
All of our needs, teach us how to succeed. Good or bad, we shall not be mistaken
-
We are shifting between light and dark. We are always igniting the spark. A few steps gone back, will put us on track. With pure faith we will soon disembark

The lioness is the queen of the Serengeti
-
The average pride has four lionesses, a few Cubs and two males. But there is one pride, in the middle of the Serengeti, that is an exception. They are what’s called a super pride. There are 22 in all: eight adult females, two males, and twelve young ones.
Super prides are exceedingly rare. The perfect set of conditions has to be present. Prey has to be plentiful. The Lions live exclusively on meat and an adult lion eats 12 pounds a day.
-
As the lionesses gave birth, the Serengeti pride welcomes new cubs to their superclub. At barely two months old, they emerge from their den. They begin to learn their place inside the pride, but dad’s discipline is nothing compared to the dangers that await.
For a while though, ignorance is bliss. Keeping the Cubs alive is the ultimate goal. They’ll pass on the ruling lions genes across the Serengeti. If they die, the adults’ efforts will have been in vain.
-
Typically only a quarter of Serengeti lion cubs make it to adulthood. It is survival of the fittest. Disease and starvation can hit hard, and predators can sneak up when they are least expecting it.
To hyenas, a lion cub is a mouth-watering treat. There is strength in numbers though. Female lions join forces to protect their cubs, forming what’s known as a crash or nursery of sorts. The mothers in a crash share the responsibility of feeding, rearing, and guarding all the cubs.
-
Lions are the only wild cats that raise their young this way. A clever solution by an awesome animal.
After about 18 months, the cubs will be ready for the wide-open African savannah all on their own. Until then, they depend on the crash, for food and protection.
-
It’s not an easy road to adulthood. Sometimes a cub’s greatest threat comes from their own: other lions. The super prides 20 square mile territory is surrounded by other prides. They must defend it ruthlessly. Trespassers cannot be tolerated.
