Before you embark on your trekking adventure, you will meet with our Trekking Operations Manager for an extensive briefing. Route, safety procedures and health issues will be discussed in detail and you have enough time to ask any remaining questions. Your trekking gear will be inspected to ensure that you have everything you need to be safe and comfortable. If you are missing any gear, you can rent it from us.

During your climb, you only carry your backpack with essentials such as water for the day’s hike. Our porters will carry all equipment, food and additional luggage – they are tough climbers and the true heroes of the mountain.

Our permanent mountain guides will lead the way. They are responsible for your safety and will encourage you and lend a helping hand, but also call the climb off due to weather, altitude sickness or injury, if necessary. Your safety is paramount to us. Most of our mountain guides have been part of our team for many years, been up Kilimanjaro hundreds of times and all receive regular training. You are in good hands.

Our cooks are miracle workers. With simple gas cookers, they conjure up 3-course feasts, hot drinks and snacks to revive and nourish you when you need it most. Drinking water comes from mountain streams and is boiled before you drink it.

On most routes, you will sleep in high-quality two-person tents. The tents will be pitched and taken down by our team of porters. You can concentrate on getting to the top, one step at a time. When you arrive at camp after a long day’s hike, your tent will already be waiting for you. Our camping gear is imported from South Africa and Germany and of the highest standard. It is inspected and cleaned regularly by our equipment team in Arusha. Africa’s highest peak, and the tallest freestanding mountain in the world, ‘Kili’ as it’s affectionately known is in fact a long extinct volcano with its three cones rising high out of the African plains. Two of the peaks are dormant but a third, Kibo, shows signs of activity and is thought to still be live.
One of the features of Mt.Kilimajaro that makes it so special is the different zones one passes through on an ascent. Technically the volcano is an Afromontane sky island, meaning unique flora and fauna exist there as a result of its isolation and altitude. It’s a biodiversity hotspot and the forests are full of birds and animals, so don’t forget to bring your camera and binoculars.

Trekkers will pass through eerie cloud forests on the lower slopes before traversing moorland and finally arriving at the snowy and rocky summit. Attempts on the summit usually set off during the night so that trekkers can reach the peak as the sun rises and have time to get back down again.

Olduvai Gorge Museum, the biggest natural history and scientific research facility in East Africa is set for an official opening this weekend by the Tanzania’s Vice President, Samia Suluhu Hassan.

The grand opening of the Museum which is rightly located at the excavation site of Olduvai Gorge and near Laetoli Footprints will open up a new chapter of the milestone discovery of the evidence of the first humans in the world.

Olduvai Gorge is a site in Tanzania that holds the earliest evidence of the existence of human ancestors. Paleoanthropologists have found hundreds of fossilized bones and stone tools in the area dating back millions of years, leading them to conclude that humans evolved in Africa.

The excavation site is located in the Great Rift Valley, between the Ngorongoro Crater and the famous Serengeti National Parks. The gorge was formed about 30,000 years ago by aggressive geological activity and streams which erupted through volcanic activity.

Dr. Louis Leakey and his wife Mary are known as the first family of paleontology in East Africa after making a great achievement in a discovery of the skull of the first human being at Olduvai Gorge in 1959, almost 60 years today.

Louis was born in Kenya, where his English parents were missionaries. He would often uncover prehistoric stone tools while he was out for bird watching. After graduating from University in England, he joined a fossil-finding expedition in Tanzania, which sparked his interest in human origins.

Extensive digging at the Olduvai Gorge revealed what was then the earliest known living floor of the primitive man.

Discovery of the origin of man at Olduvai Gorge was accidentally made by a German butterfly collector, Professor Kattwinke in 1911 when found a number of fossil bones of the extinct three-toed horse, Hipparion, which he took back with him to Berlin in Germany.
