A breathtaking safari. What a beautiful country is Tanzania and what a special "off the beaten track" safari to walk through the landscapes, see the sunsets, animals, local people, play in the waterfalls and more... I wish this for everybody to experience.

An impression of animals in the Serengeti last week during our 14 days hiking safari in Ngorongoro and the Serengeti. What an abundance of animals in this period! For 3 days our cars were filled with shiny, enthusiastic, laughing, silently watching and impressed people. Karibu www.heroeadventure.com.

The roads to Serengeti became so bad after the last rainperiod, that we were forced to overnight in the North. The next day we drove unexpectedly right into the famous migration. Thousands and thousands of wildebeast, zebras, buffalos and warthogs were heading to the famous Mara river to cross and we were in the middle of it. It was unbelievable. When we travel through this wild land, we try not to get stressed when things go different then planned. We guide our guests to be curious for what is ahead of us. When the unknown enters the safari, real adventure begins. And this day turned out to be thrilling and unforgettable.

After the kick off of our summer trekking through Ngorongoro, Serengeti and Usambara, I am running joyfully to the place at the mainroad where the dala dala will stop, to return to my hotel. A young boy awaits me and I am struck by the serenity in his face. Tanzanian children can touch me deeply with their aliveness, shiny eyes, cheerfull moods and like this boy serenity. He is beautiful. Photo by Heroe Adventure

In the Serengeti we are confronted with raw survival. Even while you are sitting safely in a landcruiser it is thrilling to be part of that ancient world for a while. This is where we all come from. The safaris of Heroe Adventure are all executed by Mindful Adventure Ltd (see photo)

A local women initiative

At the pottery in the Usambara Mountains Tanzania the women are building a big fire like a stove to finish their self made pots.
We are going to do an attempt to make something nice ourselves during our summersafari.

Ngorongoro Crater Highlands trekking

The Ngorongoro Crater Highlands is the only area in the world where wild animals are living in peace and harmony with humans. Credits are for Masai. During our summer trekking through this breathtaking landscape you will find yourself in the same position as the Masai on this picture. Zebras, wildebeast, jakkals, eagles, hyenas and more will very likely be met closeby because they are not hunted.

It is just after the rainperiod and Ngorongoro is showing its healthy colours. The cows and goats we meet are having fat on the usually skinny bones and they have shiny skins. Flowers are aromatic and growing strong to reach the sky. Today the view is more clear then then ever and if you look in between the men you can see Lake Natron. The beauty and wideness of this scenery is almost making me cry.

On our way to Ngorongoro Crater Highland we pass a small town called Mto wa Mbu. The trees are habited by Storcks. The colourful people are sitting at the road to sell a kind of spinach, bananas, mangos, handcrafts and more. The landscape we drove through was gorgeous. Tanzania has two seasons but right now after rainperiod I swear it looks like spring. The grass shines through. The colour is this vulnerable green. Flowers everywhere.
When we have a break at least one of us is showing enthusiastic ly his belly. Must be joy.

Black Colobus

There are many in Tanzania but they are shy. I saw lots of them in the South, but never close enough to see their face. Looking at this funny photo, my breath stops for a moment. Zoom in on the young colobus in the tree!
Do you see a human face like I do?

Sometimes you really need to search hours to see a leopard somewhere, lying behind a shrub or hidden in a tree far from where you are. But sometimes you drive around in the Serengeti and you are feasted to have a close look on this magnificent animal.
Last weekend in the Serengeti.

His eyes have seen 90 years of history!

Last summer we met an old Sukuma Chief who instantly won my heart. He is a big, strong, intelligent men with high standards. His eyes have seen 90 years of history and his life started during the colonial time. This man has many stories about the time he became a chief. He is one of the Sukuma leaders who was send to England for education with the aim to become a puppet in the hands of the English.
But this man has proven himself to be more then just a puppet. It also has costed him a big personal loss to stand for the rights of older women in his tribe against his tradition.
This Chief is one of the noble leaders we sometimes read about.

You and your friends are very welcome to meet him and sit together at his house to enjoy time listening to the chief and being able to ask questions you have. Time will fly.
After his storytelling they will take you for a walk to see some places you've heard about.

Total costs :
* 1 to 3 people: 150.000 tzs
* 4 and 5 people: 200.000 tzs
* 6 and 7 people: 250.000 tzs

Included:
all transport, stories, hike, 1 soda and a gift at the end.

International women day!

Maasai women right's

The emancipation of Masai women in Tanzania still has a long way to go. In the cities is some movement. Especially young women are becoming aware of the s*x differences because of the internet and sometimes in their contact with Western people. In modern Tanzania having one woman and monogamy has become the standard under the influence of Christianity. Although men regularly reveal to me that ...

The emancipation of women in Tanzania, especially Maasai women still have a long path to go. Maasai women have no rights. The men take all the important decisions and also are in charge of their children. Maasai women feel they should be treated more equal.

SUPERB STARLING

When you rest in a campsite or you have a break at a lunchplace, no matter if you are in Etosha (NamibiĆ«) or Tarangire and Serengeti in East Africa, you will spot many of these birds. They behave like the western sparrow. They are coming close to you, trying to get some food from your lunchbox. And offcourse they succeed. We allways leave some crumbs behind. And they can be very bold also. They look you straight in the eye after they sn**ch a piece of your cake, as if they say ā€œ so what mrsā€¦, this is my country!ā€ No use to protest believe me.
