Reserved for those that are ready for a challenge, the Kilimanjaro Umbwe route is one of the most difficult albeit scenic routes to summit Mt. Kilimanjaro. The Umbwe route starts with a quick hike through lush rainforests, followed by dry moors, and leading up to cold deserts with sub-zero temperatures.

The Kilimanjaro Umbwe route is a rather short, 6-day trek, with fast ascends and steep slopes. You will walk on tricky ridges and gain altitude fast, with little time for acclimatisation, all while enjoying sprawling views of glaciers and volcanic outcrops of the Kangra Valley.

Highlights of the Umbwe route Kilimanjaro trek

• Reach a maximum height of 5,895 m (19,340 ft.) as you climb Mt. Kilimanjaro via the Umbwe route
• Challenge yourself by trekking on the most difficult route to the Kilimanjaro summit
• Get beautiful views of the Kangra Valley from the Umbwe route
• Climb quick, with little time to acclimatise over 6 days
• 97% summit success rate on the Umbwe route with

A beautiful sunrise on Mawenzi peak, Mawenzi is the second highest peak on Mount Kilimanjaro. At a height of 16,893 feet or 5,149 meters, this area is made of a very steep terrain and loose rocks. It is unique in appearance due to its spiky and jagged top.
Because fatalities have occurred in the past, it was closed to mountaineers for a long time. But recently it has reopened for technical climbers willing to face the potential hazards.
Climbers on the Marangu Route and Rongai Route will have great views of Mawenzi from camp. However, Mawenzi is observable from all of Kilimanjaro’s routes.

Wild, remote, and primeval, Lake Natron sits north of the Ngorongoro Highlands and east of the Serengeti plain. Natron is one of the most alkaline lakes in the world and home to millions of tiny crustaceans. This provides a haven for lesser flamingos and creates one of the largest flamingo breeding grounds on earth (and the only one in East Africa). The landscape here is hot, dry, desolate and hauntingly beautiful. Walking is serene. Morning and early evening walks along the lake shore are excellent for bird watching.  Relief from the heat can be found on a 45 minute walk up the Ngare Sero Gorge to a freshwater waterfall great for swimming. For an out-of-the-ordinary experience undertake the challenging night-time hike up the active volcano Ol Doinyo Lengai to observe its bubbling magma.

How many days do recommend spending in Lake Natron 🤔🤔?

We recommend a minimum of three days at Lake Natron. During the three days, you can visit the lake, look out for birds, meet the Maasai, and visit the base of Ol Doinyo Lengai. If you are interested in hiking then you might want to spend a couple of extra days.

we offer private and groups tours to Lake Natron and Mount Oldonyo Lengai.

When you are camping on the mountain, you can see countless stars in the sky above Kilimanjaro. It is impossible to count them because the smallest dots turn into scatterings of dust and "star clouds”.

In clear weather on a moonless night, there is a magnificent view of the Milky Way. Nothing prevents you from enjoying this marvelous spectacle of our galaxy: the air is clear, there is no light pollution on Kilimanjaro, and the moon does not intrude on the play of starlight. This nighttime celestial show is yet another reason to climb the African mountain, which stands alone near the equator.

Each year Tanzania ranks among the best African safari destinations for its outstanding wildlife. Home to pristine national parks, visitors can witness a host of diverse species in scenic locations. Our safari guides are experts at tracking animals and can take you to the best viewing spots.

Tanzania is The Best Safari Destination on Earth.

We might sound biased but Tanzania is the best safari location in the world. The country is home to more than four million wild animals, which comprise 430 different species and subspecies.

Here you can find some of the most coveted wildlife, also known as the “Big Five” animals. This list includes lions, leopards, rhinos, elephants, and African buffalos. The term once referred to difficult-to-hunt mammals, but now references popular safari creatures.

In addition to these sought-after beasts, Tanzania has the highest number of predators in Africa. Safari guests sometimes get to witness these powerful hunters in action during their excursions.

NORTHERN CIRCUIT ROUTE WITH CRATER (KILIMANJARO).

This route is well-suited for climbers who are seeking an enjoyable backpacking and camping experience without a frantic push for the summit.  The Northern Circuit allows for superior acclimatization and nearly guaranteed likelihood of reaching the Roof of Africa.

DID YOU KNOW/ IS THERE ACTUALLY A LEOPARD ON KILIMANJARO? 🐆

"Kilimanjaro is a snow-covered mountain 19,710 feet high, and is said to be the highest mountain in Africa. Its western summit is called the Masai "Ngaje Ngai," the House of God. Close to the western summit there is the dried and frozen carcass of a leopard. No one has explained what the leopard was seeking at that altitude."

Hemingway's story "The Snows of Kilimanjaro" begins with these words. But was there really a leopard on top of Kilimanjaro? Or is it just a beautiful legend?

All we have today to confirm the discovery are the testimonies of the person who found it and the mountain guide Richard Reusch, and a couple of photographs. Nobody doubts the authenticity of the photos which were taken in 1926.

Reusch himself cut off the ear of the leopard as a memento. When he returned later to the same place, the body of the leopard had already disappeared. The place is now called Leopard Point.

What was the leopard doing so high up on the mountain? The most common theory is that the leopard was chasing an antelope that had nowhere to retreat and was climbing higher and higher. Bad weather caught the animals near the crater, where the snowstorm trapped the leopard, and thus he remained on the mountain.
