Uganda and Rwanda have almost the same heartbeat:

For those who have visited both countries or have traveled with us will definitely agree with me HOWEVER for those who have not and are only reading about us in books written by different authors will hesitate to some extent.

Ok, what do we have in common;

1- we share culture values.
2- landscape is relatively alike along the borders
3- languages are quite similar because majority are BANTU
4-Have common ancestors in particular families
5-Hospitality is paramount.
6-Have mountain gorillas chimpanzees and golden monkeys
7- We both believe in Christianity and Islam.
8- Politics is for the good players
9- We are all stable nations and many more.

A travel or safari combination through both nations gives you un forgettable memories. Our safari through both countries takes a maximum of 14 days and or 12 days minimum.

Included in the package are the visits to the following destinations;
Ziwa rhino sanctuary, murchison falls, Kibale forest Np, queen Elizabeth national park, Bwindi impenetrable forest national park and the parc national des volcano including the visit to lake Kivu.

Expected mammals to see range from rhinos, giraffes, elephants, Jackson’s heartbeest, Ugandan kobs, buffaloes, hippopotamus, crocodiles, warthogs, oribis, jackals, leopards, lions, chimpanzees, gorillas, golden monkeys and many more.

Uganda is known to be the best destination for birders with a recording of over 1000 bird species and the shoebill, green breasted pitta, African fin-foot, bien the major focus. The endemics of the Albertine rift are so special.

GORILLA HOTSPOT ZONE:

Tracking the Gorillas of Uganda & Rwanda by kifarutravelafrica.com

There is no experience quite like coming face-to-face with a giant male Silverback in the jungles of Uganda, Rwanda and or DR Congo. Specially trained park rangers/guides in Rwanda, Dr Congo and Uganda lead a very limited number of guests’ every day to see the gorillas in their natural habitat. If you have ever dreamed of traveling to Africa to get a firsthand look at these amazing animals here are 6 tips to get you started and help plan your trip.
There are only about 1004 Mountain Gorillas remaining on the planet living primarily in the Virunga Mountains of Rwanda, Uganda, Dr Congo and the Impenetrable forest of Bwindi in Uganda . The Democratic Republic of the Congo is politically unstable as of the time of this post so we will focus on seeing the gorillas in either Uganda or Rwanda. There is a great hope that DRC is rapidly becoming stable. DRC too has the best view from my previous experience. All of the Gorillas live in a relatively small region of the Virunga Mountains which straddles the borders of all three countries. The mountain range itself is a chain of volcanoes with eight major volcanoes (Muhabura, Mgahinga, Sabinyo, Bisoke; Karisimbi, Mikeno, Nyiragongo and Victory) with summits above 3000m. Remember all inclusive even on the DRC side.
The Mountain Gorillas spend most of their time in the region known as the Hagenia Forest which is between 2800 and 2400m (9,200–11,200 ft) where they can find an abundance of Galium vines to eat. Occasionally they move lower to eat the fresh bamboo sprouts when they are in season or they head up further into the mountains to feast on the giant Senecio Trees. The good thing for trekkers coming to see the Gorillas is that the forests are relatively cool given the high elevation.
Uganda or Rwanda: The best place to see the Gorillas.

Both countries are excellent places to see the Gorillas. One thing to consider is that the permits in Rwanda at $1500 are much more expensive than the $600 you will pay in Uganda. On top of that, it’s usually easier to get the permits in Uganda as well. The truth is that Rwanda has done a much better job of promoting and advertising Gorilla tracking and hence has attracted more attention.

Wildlife conservation flashbacks:

It’s not by chance to be a naturalist and or conservationist, it all starts with knowledge, enthusiasm, passion and in many accessions love for nature.
There is always one or two things in life one has to be attracted to and in realizing so, then CHOICE comes in as you may realize with so many successful characters.

In any struggle to Pursue a viable mission, there are players and spectators all aiming at one goal and in any case one needs the other.
Wildlife conservation as a major factor need everyone’s participation in order to realize success in species recovery. I remember in my childhood while in primary school, I loved just the “WILDLIFE” and indeed my dream was true. Have gone through many formal and non formal ways and there are quite a number of intellectuals who I call “MY MENTORS “ and I would say most of them have retired. For those who were mature in the early 90s, you will remember Prof. Elissa Williams who in collaboration with USAID initiated ECO-TOURISM involving local communities in the lucrative tourism business.
The whole issue is that both tourism and conservation go hand in hand.

In any successful venture, there will always be the pioneers and for this case I remember the rhino conservation success in Uganda. As far as 2001, I remember we shocked the Dutch people in Holland on sky radio when we mentioned that we were seeing the rhinos in Europe and at Safari Park Bekse Bergen for the fast time. It was a surprise to them. My colleague (Alex Droma)we trained together in rhino husbandry was like, David I think we have said something not common.

But still the whole issue goes back to all the players who endure every difficult moment turning it into success. The two rhinos at UWEC was one of our success followed by ziwa rhino sanctuary of which we are proud of.
Not only rhinos are my key flagship that I would like to mention but also baby sitting young elephants, bush babies and may more projects while at the Uganda wildlife education center (UWEC) 1998-2004. Long journey my dear.

In-situ experience or conservation is the most introduction phase to ex-situ conservation and vice versa and life has to be smooth in that trend.

Now in the tours or tourism industry, I would love to preach the gospel of conservation education, tourism and its multiplier effect.

Uganda, Rwanda, DR. Congo for the active volcano and lowland gorilla including Burundi are my popular destinations. Am a distinguished Anglo-francophone tour guide speaking over 12 local languages.

I take this opportunity to thank my mentors (Dr Josephine Afema, Bety Kamya, Debby Cox, Wilhem Moller, Prof. John E. Cooper and the Durrell Wildlife Trust - Jersey). And for those I have not mentioned, I Love you all and only footprint and legacy in my life.

Gorilla Trekking in Uganda:
Gorilla trekking in Uganda is one of the amazing activity one should put on the travel calendar for 2017. Many people write it off because they think it’s financially out of reach. If you decide to travel during the off season, then is becomes pocket friendly.
In November, April, and May, the price for gorilla tracking permits, which normally cost about $600, go down to $450 for the day. And not only are permits cheaper; they are also easier to obtain.
“ Traveling in low season means it’s easier to get a permit regardless of whether you’re booking through a tour operator or flying solo.
Trekking groups are typically limited to eight people once a day; but since fewer people are traveling during these months, there’s a very good chance your group will be much smaller, which means more personal interaction with the gorillas.
Most hotels, lodges and camps, have developed a culture of offering low season rates very attractive to most tour operators and guests.
Right: we know you are about to take a decision; isn't this the off-season for a reason?
Yes. We agree the off-season can be rainy season, and many people worry that the weather can be miserable. It has not been always like that.
During our recent trip in November, for instance, we found that it did not rain. However, we still do recommend packing packing recommended rain coats, just in case. You have already noticed that weather patterns around the world continue to shift, rainy and dry seasons are almost impossible to pin down anyway.
Even if it does rain, we still maintain that this is a great time to visit. “Everything is very green and lush. It’s not dusty — the air is crisp.” It may rain a little bit each day, however, it’s certainly not a wash out, so don’t fear long, heavy downpours.
Keep the flowing in mind during your trek;
Mountain gorillas are seen in two places in Uganda: Bwindi and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. Most travelers flock to Bwindi because a larger number of gorillas reside.
Mgahinga national park hast only one gorilla family well composed with five adult silverback males, which is the highest concentration of silverbacks in any gorilla family in all of East Africa.
It’s a bit more under-the-radar, too, and as such, it feels like a more private and personalized experience rather than a canned tourist attraction. So while everyone else flocks to Bwindi, you’ll feel like you have the park to yourself.
Trekking here can take anywhere from thirty minutes to a few hours. Trackers are sent out ahead of time, so your group is not just aimlessly wandering the national park. Once you spot the gorillas, you have an hour to observe them at close range. You’re not allowed to come within twenty-three feet of them, but the gorillas are free to approach you.
Often, the younger juveniles will get pretty close to visitors, as they are curious and playful. You’ll be surprised at just how human-like their movements and mannerisms are — they do share 98 percent of our DNA, after all.
After snapping pictures and watching the gorillas interact, you’ll be surprised at just how quickly your allotted time is up. Don’t worry, though, we assure you: The memories will last a lifetime.
Chimpanzees of Kibale forest national park are too the most attracting during the chimpanzee habituation experience (CHEX) that start from 7:00am to about 6:00pm.

UGANDA PEARL OF AFRICA 2015 TRAVEL HIGHLIGHTS

Uganda is home to a remarkable 13 primate species, Kibale Forest National Park is the highest concentration, Kyambura Gorge in Queen Elizabeth National Park, Semliki Wildlife Reserve, Budongo and Kanyiyo Padidi Forest near Murchison Falls National Park. You can also find them on Ngamba Island, also referred to as Chimp Islands. On this island there are mostly orphans who have been rescued for various reasons. This is a different setting than places such Kibale Forest, Kyambura Gorge or Kanyiyo Padidi where they live in the wild. Visiting chimapanzee habitants is one of the greatest experience one keeps with for all his life time. The way the chimpanzee feeds, climb, responds to human presence, mate, baby seat and care for their young ones, is so amazing. A visit in the morning or in the evening allows you to see how they make and unmake their beds. Leaving their nests is announced by drumming of tree buttresses, roots and screams

Baboons:
The Olive Baboon is the only one found in Uganda. You can find them in all Parks with the exception of the three Montane region parks such as Mgahinga, Rwenzori Mountains and Mount Elgon. They usually live in large groups and their dog-like heads make them look fierce and they love to show their menacing teeth. They are also quite large in size.

Black and White Colobus monkey:
This beautiful monkey with its black body, white face, white tail and white sides living in small groups can be found in most forest including in Entebbe Botanical Gardens. There is a Colobus Monkey unique to the Rwenzori Mountains.

Blue Monkeys:
Are very wide spread across East Africa. Dark-Blue-Grey in color, white throat and a white patch on chest. You can find this monkey belonging the guenon family in all of Uganda’s parks with the exception of Murchison Falls National Park and Lake Mburo National Park. Blue Monkeys live in troops of four to twelve animals. There are 20 kinds of guenon monkeys, three of them found in Uganda.

Golden Monkeys: A monkey related to the Blue Monkey and found in Mgahinga Gorilla Park. There you can find them and track them in the Bamboo Forests as you climb the volcanoes of the Virunga Chain. This is an endangered monkey and quite rare but found in Uganda at Mgahinga Gorilla National Park

De Brazza’s Monkey:
This monkey is a guenon, very thickset, short tail, and hairy face, red brown patch around the eyes, a white mustache and beard. This monkey can most likely be found in the area of Mount Elgon National Park and Semliki National Park.

L’Hoest’s Monkey:
This is a very attractive guenon and not too often seen since it loves to hide in the dense forest and is terrestrial. Its tail is always in an upright position. There are not many found in East Africa and in Uganda you can find them in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. Kibale Forest, Maramagabo Forest in Queen Elizabeth National Park and elsewhere in the parks

Red Colobus Monkeys:
This is a large red-grey monkey with a small tufted crown, very sociable living in troops up to 50. In Uganda you can find the Red Colobus Monkey in Kibale Forest and smaller numbers in Semliki National Park.

Red Tailed Monkey:
Very common monkey and in Uganda the red tailed monkey and Blue Monkeys often interbreed in Kibale Forest. You can find red tailed monkeys in Uganda in Kibale Forest, Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, Semuliki and Queen Elizabeth National Park.

Visit the Mountain gorillas which are highly endangered primates and only survive by increased conservation efforts. Of all about 870 surviving Mountain Gorillas in the world, over half of this population is found in Bwindi impenetrable forest and Mgahinga Gorilla national park making gorilla tracking a predominant activity in these parks. Trekking is a captivating lifetime experience involving guided tours to the habitants of these great apes
