Meet one of the six adorable infants from the Posho Gorilla Group in Bwindi, Uganda. 🦍🌿

I’ve been holding onto this photo for what feels like forever, just waiting for the perfect moment to share it on Instagram. I don’t know why I’ve been waiting, maybe just hoping you’d all be online at the same time.😉

Anyway, I’ve decided that today is the day! This photo is hands down my favorite wildlife shot of all time, and man, am I proud of it! 🤩

I can’t find the words to express the overwhelming emotions I experienced when I caught this little cutie hanging from a vine, munching on some juicy leaves 🌱. If I could spend the rest of my life capturing photos like this, I would do it in a heartbeat! 🤎

Initially, I felt a twinge of guilt for purchasing the Canon 70 - 200mm F2.8 lens so impulsively before we left for East Africa. Turns out, it’s now my absolute favorite lens! Go figure, right? 😂

"It took us several hours of hiking on steep terrain to find the Hirwa family of mountain gorillas in Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park. But when we did, we were treated to an unforgettable experience when the female known as Kabatwa showed us her newborn twins. Twins are extremely rare in mountain gorillas—only five sets have been recorded in the last 40 years. There are fewer than 800 mountain gorillas left in the wild, and every one is precious. We salute the superb rangers and guides of Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park for looking after these extraordinary creatures."

Hanging In There .....
Gorilla trekking can be conducted all year around in Uganda, Rwanda and Congo. The best time to go gorilla trekking in during the months of June, July, August, September and December. This is because there are less rains and the parks are drier, making it simple to hike and see the gorillas .In Bwindi the average temperature throughout the year is 11°C/52°F in the morning and 23°C/73°F in the afternoon.

Mountain gorillas only live in the dense vegetation of Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park and along the dormant volcanic Virunga mountain range that stretches across Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park, Uganda’s Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, and Virunga National Park in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Tips On Cutting Costs
Do not travel alone.
Stay in best budget lodges.
Choose Uganda over Rwanda.
Avoid public transport buses do not leave on time.
Avoid chartered flights.
Book Your gorilla tour during low season.
January and February: Low season offering less huge crowds. Very little or on rain.
March, April and May: Its rains a lot during these months. Most challenging during the trek, the slopes are slippery.
June, July & August: Peak season, its important to buy your permits early since they run out. Best time for gorilla safari in Uganda and Rwanda.

***A Client's Mountain Gorilla Habituation Experience***

We tracked the Mishaya family for our Mountain Gorilla Habituation Experience in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest in Uganda. The Habituation Experience is different from a “normal” trek in that the Gorilla group is not yet completely habituated to (i.e. used to) humans and are more unpredictable in their behavior as a result. We also got to spend up to 4 hours with the Gorillas as opposed to 1 hour when visiting habituated families. Only 4 guests are allowed on each habituation trek, although this particular trek turned out to be a private experience – only us and the guide/ranger and trackers.

A dream come true 🦍

The visit to the mountain gorillas was one of the most magical moments of the trip. After sleeping in some wooden cabins in the middle of a valley with breathtaking views, we set course for our rendezvous.

At the information center we were greeted by a group of women doing traditional dances, and after the safety briefing we were assigned a ranger and the gorilla family we were going to visit. A while of van and trekking... and there they were.

It is very impressive to be so close to them, there in their home, where they are free. Where you have to walk through the lushest and most alive forest I've ever seen, where your feet sink, you slip and get stuck everywhere. Where there are some ants that bite you and then the sting goes away. But man, being close to a threatened gorilla species of which only two populations remain free in the world is a privilege.

We saw the male, the silver back, so majestic. A little one who played climbing the trees, and who then fed on his mother's milk. There were 10 in the family, and they were all around us.

You can only spend 1 hour near them so as not to disturb them too much, and they are only visited 1 time during the day. Oh and since we share 98% DNA with them and any disease can be passed on to them (and be fatal to them), we have to wear a mask to be close.

And to end this exciting morning, we just set foot on the road where the van was waiting for us and it starts to rain like there's no tomorrow. It didn't catch us miraculously, or thanks to the fact that a few days earlier we had been drinking beers with the village sorcerer (a story for another day) and we had asked him to make the rain not bother us for the rest of the trip . Who knows.

Uganda surprised me every day, every moment. I look at the photos and I look so happy... A must for animal and nature lovers 💚🇺🇬

THE ELEPHANTS OF AMBOSELI Read Caption 👇👇 #imnotyourtrophy In October last year, we had the privilege of visiting Amboseli National Park. What an experience it was! Stunning. From the ever changing landscapes to witnessing harmonious human-wildlife co-existence and of course- ELEPHANTS! We spent an afternoon with the iconic Craig, a Super Tusker and truly majestic being. It was an experience that’s very difficult to describe. When we remember it, we’re overcome with emotion. His steadfast presence allowing us into his space. A few days ago, we were saddened to hear about the tragic death of two other such Super Tuskers as a result of trophy hunting in Tanzania. Trophy hunting- such an archaic phrase. It’s surprising that in today’s age, as Super Tuskers are becoming increasingly rare, with an estimated 50 to a 100 elephants left in the wild, hunting for sport is still legal. It also baffles us that there is no unified perspective on this amongst alliances or even multilaterally. As we continue to put in efforts in conservation and awareness against poaching, more must be done against trophy hunting. ***** Clients on A 3 Day Uganda Gorilla trekking Safari to Bwindi Forest National Park **** A dream come true 🦍 The visit to the mountain gorillas was one of the most magical moments of the trip. After sleeping in some wooden cabins in the middle of a valley with breathtaking views, we set course for our rendezvous. At the information center we were greeted by a group of women doing traditional dances, and after the safety briefing we were assigned a ranger and the gorilla family we were going to visit. A while of van and trekking... and there they were. It is very impressive to be so close to them, there in their home, where they are free. Where you have to walk through the lushest and most alive forest I've ever seen, where your feet sink, you slip and get stuck everywhere. Where there are some ants that bite you and then the sting goes away. But man, being close to a threatened gorilla species of which only two populations remain free in the world is a privilege. We saw the male, the silver back, so majestic. A little one who played climbing the trees, and who then fed on his mother's milk. There were 10 in the family, and they were all around us. You can only spend 1 hour near them so as not to disturb them too much, and they are only visited 1 time during the day. Oh and since we share 98% DNA with them and any disease can be passed on to them (and be fatal to them), we have to wear a mask to be close. And to end this exciting morning, we just set foot on the road where the van was waiting for us and it starts to rain like there's no tomorrow. It didn't catch us miraculously, or thanks to the fact that a few days earlier we had been drinking beers with the village sorcerer (a story for another day) and we had asked him to make the rain not bother us for the rest of the trip . Client's experience************** A long walk through the rain forest ... beautiful, fascinating, wonderful We stayed at upscale Mahogany Springs in the town of Buhoma, which was very nice. Then you must pay for entry to the National Park and 2 ranger guides (who are armed). Our local guide was from Kabira Safaris (on the web)and he carried a couple of books. We started walking along a forest path and walked for hours, down into a river valley and up to a high ridge. My wife and I are runners and we really enjoyed the motion. Our 24 yo daughter came with us and, not a runner, enjoyed the exercise. We were puffing when we got to the ridge. The path was at times almost carpeted with butterflies. Asgorio, our guide, usually heard the monkeys before he saw them, then pointed them out to us. He was knowledgeable, nonintrusive but totally available, and a pleasure to go with. The ranger guides looked solemn until we talked with them and they turn out to be nice young men in the service. The trees and flowers were really and truly rain forest. We went in the rainy season and, in the rain forest, it rained on us. Duh. We got drenched for half an hour and quickly dried (recommend raincoat and coolmax) and it was part of the fun of the walk. This is the real thing. Arriving in Nkuringo, it turns out Asgorio is a very effective community organizer there and you will be astonished at what he's done for this remote village. If you're not either young and enthusiastic or in reasonably good shape, or both, this walk would be uncomfortably difficult Email: [email protected]
