MEETING WITH THE MENTORS FROM HUMANITERIAN OPENSTREETMAP TEAM (HOT)
This week, a team of five staff from Ruboni Community Conservation and Development Program (RCCDP) had three full days of discussing this interesting activity of mapping.
In partnership with Humanitarian Openstreetmap Team (HOT) Ruboni will map the tourist attractions of the gateway in Bugoye and Maliba sub-ounties, and add them on Open Street Map.
The aim of this activity is to make travel easier for the tour operators and travelers when they plan their trips to Ruboni village at the Rwenzori gateway.
In the end, easy accessibility and navigation of the village will cause increased visitor numbers to the destination, creating incomes and economic empowerment to the local population.
Owing to the RCCDP goal, some of the increased income will be spent on conservation and community development initiatives

Ruboni Community Camp is the ultimate home to nature lovers. It is the gateway to finding the three-horned chameleons in their natural habitat. Other species of chameleons can be found too.
Our visitors love to watch chameleons as they hunt for their prey, mainly flies and other small insects, with their powerful weapon. They are slow with their grip but accurate and swift when grabbing their prey! Discover this weapon and how it is used by these gentle creatures, when you stay at the camp or participate in our nature walks.

You’re a true part of nature when these little animals can walk on you without fear, when we take you on a nature walk in the forest.
As you can see, a three-horned Chameleon was walking on our guest during the forest walk in the foothills, next to Rwenzori Mountains National Park.
If you’re looking to go out in nature, the Ruboni community forest walk is an ideal choice for your next experience;
- It is an affordable walk,
- It is easy to arrange,
- It is easy walking that can be managed by any level of fitness
- You have great Mountain scenery
Come and immerse yourself in the tropical rainforest jungles and take the chances of finding lots of small animals unique to the Rwenzori Mountains. You will also be meeting the friendly Bakonzo people in their local life setting as they show you these Mountains.
As per our "leave no trace" policy, all animals we find on the walk are not captive. They live free in their natural habitat. We don’t allow any guests or guides to take wild animals out of the forest.
