Thomas Cook rules out Sharm el Sheikh return for summer 2017

Thomas Cook has ruled out a return to Egyptian beach resort Sharm el Sheikh for the summer of 2017.

The decision comes amid continued fears over terrorism in the destination and a resulting ban on flights departing from the UK to the resort’s airport.

The decision comes six weeks after Monarch cancelled all flight and holiday bookings to the destination.

Both moves come despite efforts to improve security at the Sharm el Sheikh airport from the Egyptian authorities.

Flights were suspended from a number of destinations following the bombing of a Russian charter flight shortly after take-off last autumn.

However, the UK ban is the only significant limitation remaining in place, with other European source markets green lighting a return.

The Foreign & Commonwealth Office continues to advise against “all but essential” travel by air to Sharm el Sheikh.

Thomas Cook UK & Ireland managing director Chris Mottershead said: “Over the last few months, people have regularly asked me when Thomas Cook hopes to resume trips to Sharm el Sheikh from the UK.

“The decision ultimately rests with the Foreign & Commonwealth Office which issues expert security advice for UK travellers.

“Since October 2015 it has advised against flying to Sharm el Sheikh Airport and we have had no indication that this is likely to change in the near future.

“We will continue to offer holidays to the popular and growing resort town of Hurghada on the Red Sea Riviera in Egypt.”

Visit Tanda Village
Tanda Pits are located 8 kilometers to Mityana town, 92 kilometers from Mubende and 3 kilometers off the Kampala-Mubende highway. The legendary stories explain their existence on one Walumbe (“Death”) who is said to have been the sister to the wife (Nambi) of the first Ganda to live on earth from heaven. The pits were created as Walumbe kept escaping from a brother (Kayikuzi) who had come to return him to heaven. Kayikuzi dug the pits in an effort to capture Walumbe who is believed to have disappeared underground and remained on earth and began the death of people on earth. And then we shall have a night and dinner in Mityana

The Bafumbira, one of the 56 tribes in Uganda are
ethnically the same as t
he Banyarwanda of Rwanda.
They were selected to re
present the western region
because of their heavy concentrations in some parts of
Kampala. The Bafumbira were sampled from Kamwokya
parish, Central division and Kyebando parish in
Kawempe division. These are areas with heavy
concentrations of Bafumbira who originate from Kisoro
District. Kisoro district represented western Uganda in a
comparative study (see map 1) Kisoro District is the
indigenous district of the Bafumbira in Uganda.
Preparation for marriage
The cultural practice of “pulling” or stretching a woman’s
l***a minora (the inner lobes of the va**na just below the
cl****is) is highly cherished by the Bafumbira as the case
is with the Baganda. Among the Baganda, the cultural
practice
is referred to as visiti
ng the bush (“Okukyalira
ensiiko”). This is because traditionally, a group of girls is
taken to the bush by an old woman for about a week and
taught how to pull. http://www.naturesafariuganda.com/13-days-uganda-rwanda/

Cultural Tours Western
African music is nearly always coupled with some other art form, such as poetry, ritual or dance, and it constitutes one of the most revealing forms of expression of the African life and soul. They have a sense of rhythm. Some tribes combine dance and music, and they explain history and the social elements in a form like the theater of today. Dances were most of the time closely related with religion, ancestral worship and spiritualism

3 days Gorilla Special

Bwindi has a population of around 340 gorillas of which an estimated 116 are habituated. Gorillas are intelligent, majestic, gentle giants that share over 90% of their genetic material with humans. All of Bwindi’s habituated gorillas are known individually by the rangers and have been given names in order to identify them. The males can weigh more than 500lb and some silverbacks exceed 6ft!

Marriege and traditions of the Japadhola

The Jopadhola believe they all originate from a man called Adhola. However, this belief does not tally with the history of the Jopadhola. Prof Ogot, who has studied the migration of the southern Luos, surmises that the belief in a common origin is one aspect of the consciousness of oneness as a distinct ethnic group that developed with time. By the beginning of the eighteenth...http://www.naturesafariuganda.com/marriege-and-traditions-of-the-japadhola/

BUGANDA HISTORY

The region known today as Buganda was known as Muwaawa before the 12th century, a name literary seem to mean a place that is sparsely populated. It is believed that these people come from Abyssinia through the rift valley and the mountains of Elgon. These people were organized into groups that had a common ancestry and constituted the most important unit in Buganda’s culture

Uganda Launches e-Visa application
All those who have guests, friends or relatives visiting Uganda, kindly advise them to apply for the Visas online. Soon they will be no issuance at the point of entry.
It is not yet however known if Uganda will continue for the time being with a parallel process of Visa on arrival as has been the case all along and clarification is sought on this crucial issue.

If your visa or permit application is approved, it establishes that you are eligible for the approved visa or permit, but does not establish that your application is definitely approved.
Upon arrival to Uganda (at the selected point of entry) or to the Immigration Office Headquarters, you will be inspected by an Immigration Officer who may determine if your application is finally approved. All information provided by you, or on your behalf by a designated third party, must be true and correct. A visa or permit application approval may be revoked at any time and for any reason, such as new information influencing eligibility. You may be subject to administrative or criminal penalties if you knowingly and willfully make a materially false, fictitious, or fraudulent statement or representation in an electronic visa or permit application submitted by you or on your behalf.

Please indicate you have read and understand the information provided above.
The process would work as follows:
1) Anyone arriving from 01st June 2016 who require Visas must have applied online and on completion and submitting the application intending travelers are to receive a bar coded email notification.
2) On arrival at any border post, airport or land borders, that email must be presented and the bar code will be scanned into the immigration system. A Visa sticker will then be printed, including a scanned in picture and will be inserted into the passport on payment of the respective Visa fee.
3) For any Visa extensions, again the process is due to be completed on line though it is thought that anyone in Kampala may apply in person at the Immigration Headquarters at the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
4) These applications will be for regular single entry Visa, the common East African Tourist Visa (covering besides Uganda also Kenya and Rwanda), multiple entry Visa and Business Visa.
5) Access to the application platform can be found at www.visas.immigration.go.ug
In a related development will applications for special passes and work permits also from 01st of June onwards be done online.
Relevant statements from the Ministry of Tourism, the Uganda Tourism Board and the Ugandan private sector are expected to be issued in due course further explaining the modalities of these transactions.

ELEPHANT ELECTROCUTED AT QUEEN ELIZABETH NATIONAL PARK

An adult bull elephant was Monday morning discovered dead in Mweya Peninsula of Queen Elizabeth National Park.

Uganda Wildlife Authority Public Relations Manager Jossy Muhangi says that the carcass of the 35-year-old elephant was found lying near a ground transformer with cables attached to a nearby electric pole.

Muhangi adds that the wire mesh fence surrounding the transformer, a few meters from the Visitor Information Centre, was smashed by the jumbo, trying to force his way through the enclosure. The body was discovered by rangers on patrol.

He says UWA management called Umeme, the power service providers, who temporarily switched off the power to allow the recovery of tusks from the carcass. Veterinary experts are conducting a postmortem.

This is the third case of reported fatal electrocution in less than four years following two other cases involving elephants in Katunguru and Fig tree areas of Rubirizi district.

Sipi Falls was actually a series of three tall waterfalls all plunging along the lower slopes of Mt Elgon (the 4th highest peak in Africa shared between Eastern Uganda and Western Kenya). The name of the falls was often associated with only the main falls in the literature, but I was able to explore the area with a guide and see the other two impressive waterfalls as well.

our visiting all three waterfalls involved a rather difficult 7km loop hike that was full of steep ascents and descents, flimsy ladders, flimsy catwalks, lots of farms, and lots of mud. This was especially the case since it had rained during the start of our hike.

Reed buck uganda tours and travel has a special surprise and offer for those who love traveling and adventure this Easter season, you will find the Plains or Burchell Zebras living in small family groups comprising along with other family groups large herds as both found in Lake Mburo National Park and Kidepo Valley Park in Uganda. They are best known for their distinctive striped coat. The stripes area like fingerprints and no two zebras are exactly alike. Stripes are generally seen as a type of camouflage to safeguard them from predators making it harder for a predator such as lion to distinguish one particular zebra. Others speculate that the stripes may keep insects at bay, or the stripes may be a natural kind of sunscreen and the stripes may assist zebras in recognizing one another and the list of speculations for zebra stripes goes on.
