The leopard is an agile and powerful big wild cat closely related to the tiger, jaguar and lion. It lives in sub-Saharan Africa, northeast Africa, Central Asia, China, and India. It’s found in virtually all habitats which offer adequate cover in most Ugandan national parks and forest reserves.
The leopard uses strong muscles to haul its kill into tree branches, where it finds comfort away from scavengers such as hyenas. It can also hunt from trees, where its spotted coat allows it to blend with the leaves until it springs on prey with a deadly pounce.

With an eight-foot wingspan, the shoebill is quite a kick to observe! This hefty bird is endemic to swamps and wetlands of Central and East Africa. Solitary in nature, even when paired with another, the birds like their space and will feed at opposite ends of their territory.
You probably wouldn’t win a staring contest with it, though you’d be hard pressed to look away because of its uniqueness😃.

To stay cool in the blistering African heat, hippos spend most of their day mud bathing, and in rivers and lakes. Their eyes, nose and ears are located on the top of their head, which means they can see and breathe whilst submerged in the water. What’s more, these super-cool creatures sweat an oily red liquid which helps protect their skin from drying out – and acts as a sunblock, too!
