It's that time of year when Italian Culinary Tours starts to share wonders of Italy with our guests. We started in Sicily again this year with a new specialty tour of Western Sicily, designed by my ever-creative and imaginative associate, Tavé Fascé and myself, based in our families’ hometown of Montelepre.

The tour includes many culinary experiences of local foods and wines. Hitting the ground running upon arrival, the group visited the Augustali Winery to learn about the local grapes and wine varieties. The farm of Augustali borders the two provinces of Trapani and Palermo on the southern edge of the Gulf of Castellammare and has a picturesque, hilly landscape sloping down to the sea.

Our guests spent the next day visiting The Valley of the Temples, a UNESCO park with the ruins of a Greek city that features the remains of a series of Greek temples.

If that wasn’t enough, our star associate, Ottavia, whisked our guests off to Villa Romana del Casale, another UNESCO site showcasing a once-buried Roman villa of a very wealthy individual. Recently rediscovered, mostly the floors remain of the house, showing rooms decorated in marble mosaic tiles to create pictures of Roman life. The villa is approximately 1700 years old!

ROBERT GAGLIO ENTERTAINS 100 PLUS BKYC MEMBERS WITH TALES OF ITALY AND A PASTA PREPARATION DEMONSTRATION


Sarasota based Master Chef Robert Gaglio, founder President of Italian Culinary Tours and author,captivated 100 plus members of the Bird Key Yacht Club with his stories of operating a tour company in Italy and conducting a live demonstration in the art of pasta making.

As part of the Bird Key Yacht Club Seafarers Speakers series, Robert entertained the audience by selecting two Club members to receive a hands on cooking lesson in the art of pasta preparation. Donning aprons as they took center stage , Bird Key Yacht Club members Kathi-Ann Gage and John Dieter learned the finer points of pasta preparation as Master Chef Robert provided tips and suggestions.

Following the demonstration, members enjoyed a fabulous Italian themed meal prepared by Executive Chef Richard Mendoza and his team. The culmination was a special tribute dessert of Tiramisu inspired and created by Robert’s cousin who had helped reveal the joys of Italy to him a number of years ago and is featured on his book “Freedom to Wander”.

Robert concluded his presentation by describing tales of his own personal journey and of leading his clients through tours of Italy amid beautiful photographs and descriptions of the many breathtaking sites within Italy.
