Beginning at the quaint Basalt Barber Shop at the edge of town, bicycle or motor along the edge of the Gold Medal Fryingpan River aside the monumental Seven Castles red-rock outcroppings, working ranches, expansive open spaces and kaleidoscopic views. As the road begins its dramatic climb, into view appears 997 acres of the magnificent Ruedi Reservoir and Dam. The US Forest Service manages four campgrounds nearby and two boat ramps, beyond which are historic Thomasville, the Lime Kilns, Norrie Colony and Hell Gate, and Hagerman Pass. http://www.basaltchamber.org/recreation/
