It was another amazing week with artists, creatives and dancers at Xanadu!

Our relationship is complete kismet. Molly Johnston, co-Director of DanceBarn Collective, messaged me on Facebook a month after my husband and I purchased Xanadu. To say that I was sitting at my desk on a snowy February day thinking “what did we just do?” would be an understatement. Molly introduced herself as a neighbor and asked if we planned on keeping it open to the public as a resort. She asked if we could talk to possibly partner in the future on retreats. After an hour conversation with her, my spirits were lifted, I felt supported in my big ideas and dreams for the resort and felt I had a partner in crime. We both got goosebumps when I said I had plans to renovate the 2nd story, windowless storage space into a barn event center. She then said her non-profit was called DanceBarn…kismet.

Molly and Ayumi Shafer, the other co-Director of DanceBarn, have turned out to be the most helpful women in developing my business, whether it be Ayumi as my onsite staff for two summers, referring me to my amazing employees, connecting me to artists for our Artist in Residency program or just a cheer session when life is A LOT. (I’m looking at you, COVID.)
