I generally have a hard time getting a decent photograph of a Steller's Jay because they are quick to hide when I get near. This one didn't seem to be bothered by me taking photographs of it. The Steller's Jay has several different sounds. Usually I know they're around by a squawking sounds. But they also do a very good mimic of a red-tailed hawk. We were at a petting zoo last spring and there was a beautiful peacock sitting on the top of an outbuilding. It just sat there, looking beautiful and making a lot of noise. About five minutes before we were going to leave, it came down off its perch and showed us all of its beauty. Maralee

I believe this hawk is living somewhere in the area of our office. I have seen it numerous times and it occasionally will land in the tree outside my window. It doesn't stay long and is usually somewhat obscured by the branches of the tree. But it is fun to watch it. Maralee

Although this is apparently a common bird in our area, this is the first time I've seen one. While I was walking today, I saw this bird run across the walking path quite a distance ahead of me. At first I thought it was a chipmunk because of the way it ran. I was quite a distance away and my 300mm lens didn't help much. [ 37 more words. ]

I love watching geese and ducks coming in for a landing. They're synchronized and will circle until they find the best landing conditions. Sort of like an airplane coming in for a landing. The geese are setting up their nesting areas and are defending their territory. There were numerous geese "couples" in the marsh setting up house. Maralee

I came across this animal eating at the side of the walking path while walking along the river last week. I didn't know what it was and after searching the internet for a bit, I believe it is a nutria. The nutria is a large rat-like semiaquatic rodent which is considered and invasive species here in Oregon. [ 91 more words. ]

We had a gorgeous moon set on Monday morning. It was just starting to disappear behind the mountains as I was leaving home. I didn't have time to set up with my tripod so this is handheld focusing on the moon. The resulting photo was almost black except for a sliver of the moon so in Lightroom I increased the exposure by quite a lot. [ 45 more words. ]
