The Alpine Zoo is actively ensuring the safety and well-being of all its animals amidst the challenges posed by the Line Fire affecting the San Bernardino mountains.

The zoo has implemented stringent monitoring protocols, tracking both air quality and the stress levels of each animal. At this time, all animals are reported to be in excellent health and are being closely watched by the zoo’s dedicated team of caretakers.

Alpine Zoo also has contingency plans in place should the situation escalate, prioritizing the welfare of their animals.

Regular updates will continue to be shared with the public to keep everyone informed. Support from the community is greatly appreciated during this time, as the zoo remains committed to providing the best care possible for its inhabitants.

Those who know me also know I am not religious, but I do have faith. We need all the good juju we can muster at times like these. I have been going to Big Bear my whole life. In the past few years, mom and I have bought and fixed up a few cabins and use them as vacation rentals as well as our part-time home. I want to retire there. We left BB 6 days ago. We are home safe with our "fur kids," and we also have fire insurance. I am not worried about us. The people and community of Big Bear as a whole are amazing and kind. We have the best firefighters, too! Fires happen every year it seems, but none as scary as this one. Most of my friends on the mountain have already evacuated, and the others are packed and ready to go. People there do not have the luxury of a home off the hill. Their homes and livelihoods are at stake. I am scared for them, the animals, and the wildlife. Thank you to all our friends who have reached out. Please keep Big Bear and everyone affected by the fires everywhere in your prayers this week. Also, thank you to the firefighters. BB friends - please sign up with the city to donate your homes to first responders who need a rest.

Incident Update: September, 11, 2024
34, 659 acres with 14% contained and 3,179 personnel assigned to the fire. **Personnel Correction**

In the overnight hours of the Line Fire Wednesday, fire activity was moderated due to smoke shading and cooler weather. However, the fire grew on the north and east sides due to slope and vegetation driven runs. Public safety power shutoffs occurred on one of the two main supply lines to Big Bear Valley including potential evacuation zones. This caused possible power interruptions when electrical demand exceeded thresholds. Today elevated winds and continued dry conditions will allow the fire to grow. Smoke from fires across the region will help moderate fire activity unless the skies clear and the smoke thins. That would allow for more slope and vegetation aligned runs. There are 3,179 personnel assigned to the fire. Limited resource availability continues to hamper control efforts.
There are currently 65,600 structures that are still threatened. A Damage Inspection Team (DINS) is working in the area to identify any structures that may have been damaged or destroyed.
