It snowed two days ago, but today is bright and sunny! ☀️ Arrowleaf balsamroot (Balsamorhiza sagittata) is blooming its little heart out in the park right now. This gorgeous plant is abundant in mountain fields, but can also be found in the understory of conifer forests.

FUN FACT: the roots of the arrowleaf balsamroot can be used as a coffee substitute! (Would you try it??)

Peek-a-boo, we see you, too! 🐻 The first grizzly bear sighting of the year is always exciting! What is YOUR most memorable grizzly sighting?

DID YOU KNOW: Male grizzlies emerge from hibernation in early March, followed by females with cubs in April and early May. When they leave their dens, they are HUNGRY (can you relate??) and often look for elk and bison that died over the winter.

The National Park Service cautions that bears tend to react aggressively to human encounters when feeding on carcasses. It's always best practice to give grizzly bears plenty of space and carry bear spray when traveling in bear country!

The coldest day on record in Yellowstone National Park was February 9th, 1933, at a whopping -66F, measured at the West Entrance! ❄ The gateway community of West Yellowstone, Montana, where most of our tours enter the park, is consistently one of the coldest locations in the lower 48 states.

(PS - So far, the lowest temperature recorded in West Yellowstone in 2024 is -41F, measured on January 13! BRRRRR!)
