Please tell everyone you know not to paddle, fish or boat near the western half of Utowana Lake. We have already pulled 38 gallons of variable leaf milfoil (VLM) from these 3 marked areas of the lake.
VLM is a highly aggressive aquatic invasive species that can quickly overtake water bodies making it difficult to swim, fish, paddle as well as harming native vegetation and fish.
Join us at the Water Watch meeting Friday morning at 8:30 am (doors open at 8 am for refreshments) to learn more! Location: Adirondack Lakes Center for the Arts
The Blue Mountain Lake Association hires Aqualogic every summer to hand-harvest the variable leaf milfoil from the bottom of Utowana Lake where it was first discovered in 2020. Our vigilance has paid off, reducing the original amount hand-harvested from 400 gallons to 36 gallons last year. This year we are finding more plants, but the divers are already working to remove it all now.
Please remind friends and family not to boat/fish in the western half of Utowana Lake - together we can keep it from spreading further!
