Rosé of the Year!

We are beyond thrilled to announce that our 2022 Extra Brut Sparkling Rosé won “Rosé of the Year” at the 2024 Sommeliers Choice Awards in Chicago! 1,500 wines were judged from more than 30 countries and yours truly earned top honors for sparkling Rosé by the bottle!

The wines were judged in five categories: food pairing ability, typicity, quality, value, and packaging. The judges ask themselves, would I stock this wine, and is it good enough for customers to order a second glass? Wines are graded on a 100-point scale and category awards are given for best in show for white, red, sparkling, rosé, and an overall winner every year, by the bottle and by the glass – reflecting how wine is presented in restaurants.

The Sommeliers Choice Awards provide on-premise buyers and sommeliers a valuable benchmark for understanding which wines would make a compelling addition to a wine list. The 2024 Sommeliers Choice Awards were supported by over 56 wine professionals, wine directors, sommeliers and master sommeliers.

If you’re familiar with Rosemont, you know how much research, development and focus we put towards our Rosé program that’s crafted using 100% estate-grown Chambourcin. The way that this hybrid grape has taken to our Southern Virginia soils has inspired us to craft distinctive and expressive Rosés – both still and sparkling – that are unique to this site. The Extra Brut Sparkling Rosé is fun, lively and the perfect complement to so many different styles of food. We are truly honored for this wine to be recognized in this way.

Thank you to all of the judges as well as the service industry professionals who continue to support this wine and celebrate it on their menus. Had a fun day checking out and helping Visit Mecklenburg County VA Tourism cut all the ribbons on the murals and launch their new Mecklenburg County Mural Trail! The first of its kind in Southern Virginia! All of the murals are “interactive’ and make for a great photo op. Put this one on your bucket list! Chincoteague Chamber of Commerce and Certified Visitor Center

The Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge and the Chincoteague Refuge Friends Group is excited to announce the reopening of the Assateague Lighthouse for climbing!

The lighthouse will begin summer climbing hours on Monday, May 27, 2024 (Memorial Day). The hours will be 10:00 a.m. until 3:30 p.m.

Beginning Friday, May 31, 2024 the lighthouse will be open for climbing every Friday and Saturday 10:00 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. through Labor Day, weather permitting. After Labor Day the lighthouse will only be open on Saturdays until Thanksgiving weekend. We are so pleased that we have enough volunteers to cover two days a week during the summer this year!

Please wear comfortable shoes and bring your patience as the line can get quite long at times. Also, bring your bug spray. Yes, our Refuge nibblers are back! Our volunteers will greet you at the bottom and top of the lighthouse so bring your smiles too! You might even see the Lighthouse Keeper at the top.

Remember the lighthouse is free but donations are welcome. You can either donate in cash at the lighthouse or you can donate by credit card at the Bateman Visitor Center. As always, the book/gift shop located in the Bateman will be open. Come in and see all the new items that are being stocked daily, including the new lighthouse shirts.

Looking forward to seeing our visitors once again enjoying the beautiful view from the top of our lighthouse!
