48 years ago tonight, around this time, gale warnings were being issued on Lake Superior. Tomorrow will mark the 48th anniversary of the sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald on The Lake in the storm that developed. The Arthur M Anderson accompanied the Fitzgerald through the storm and was the last to make contact with the Fitz before the tragedy that took all 29 lives on board. The Anderson still sails the lakes today, pictured here a few years back at Taconite Harbor.
The commemorative ceremony at Split Rock Lighthouse can be live streamed tomorrow evening on their page or on YouTube on the Minnesota Historical Society's channel. If you are going, go EARLY to get parking and dress warm.
