Here's a comparison of our two bears. The one on the left has shorter, brown fur, and is definitely a male. The right is heavier with thick black fur. Both have been here before over the years, with the one on the left previously taking a bath about three years ago!

This is another first, I've never seen a Spotted Skunk before! I knew they were around as the folks up at Hastings were studying them (they are smaller than their Stripped cousins, 1-2 lbs.) But the funny thing was we had two sightings on the rancho, this one is down by the Carmel River, while another was up on the Ponciano basically at the same time!

Bath Time

It's hot enough that one just needs a bath to cool down!

Someone's got a fully belly and is a little annoyed by all the flies around its face.

Madrones are a funny tree...In the heart of Summer they drop last year's leaves making for a crunchy walk through the forest.

While it's not a banner year, we are still getting some nice Steelhead in the creek spawning. For reference, this gal is about 26" long.

This beautiful lady walked all around the Ponciano Thursday. She sure looks pregnant to me and needed this short break. (she stayed here three minutes before moving on)
