Tonight’s magic 🔥
Just takin’ in this beauty. Oh what a night!
Tonight’s Sunset
After a summer of foggy nights, it was nice to see some color break through tonight! Just a preview of what’s to come in the fall on the coast - our traditional sunset season 🔥
Fireworks in fog is still well worth the show! Here’s a view of the Cayucos Pier Firewirks Show from aboard the Morro Bay Whale Watching boat. Thank you to all who made this such a magical experience. Happy 4th from Cayucos!

Great news! The winter storm debris and kelp is all cleaned up! The beach is ready for the Cayucos 4th - are you? 🧨🤙🏼 Pro Tip: Always pack out what you pack in. Let’s keep our beach clean! 🚮🗑️
The original tower bell that alerted dairy farmers to incoming ships was returned to its original location today on the roof of the former Cass Watehouse Building (named for Cayucos founder Capt. James Cass) - now the Cayucos Vets Hall, currently a multi-million dollar restoration project at the foot of Cayucos Pier. #cayucosbeach #cayucosca #cayucospier #historicalbuilding #historicalbuilding
The Estero Bluffs State Park offers an amazing place to explore tidepools. From the windmill trail on Highway 1, north of downtown Cayucos, scramble down the bluffs to the beach cove near San Geronimo Creek. There, you’ll find exposed rocks and peaceful waters. Keep an eye out for limpets, mussels, and barnacles, as well as sea anemones, snails and hermit crabs. Tidepooling tip: Watch where you step! In tide pools, walk on bare rock to avoid crushing fragile tide pool dwellers, and keep away from seaweed – it’s slippery! Please be mindful of the tidepool environment and leave critters in their natural home. 📷: California Highway 1 Road Trip
This video clip just makes us want to do a happy dance 🕺🏻💃 The drone sure captures those healthy kelp forests - which explains where the kelp comes from the times it washes up on Cayucos beach. Kelp is home and food to many types of sea life and sea otters wrap themselves in it to sleep without floating away with the tides. 🌊

As we awaken to another rainy day, let’s celebrate the hills finally greening up and Cayucos Creek broken through to the ocean as captured from a bird’s eye view.
The dark drifting strands near the end of the pier is likely creek debris and/or kelp broken free from the underwater kelp forest due to the storms and strong currents.
Strands of the nutrient-rich giant kelp will break free together to make what is known as a kelp paddy. Depending on the currents, kelp paddies can drift miles out to sea and become another small habitat for certain animals. Small baitfish, juvenile fish and even sea birds can be seen using a kelp paddy for shelter or a resting spot.
Have an amazing day from Cayucos 🌊
