For 10 years(a freaking decade), Dave Fuerte , Myself, and too many others to name individually have been pouring our heart and soul into HcBX. Over the years, I have had various roles, but my favorite has been being friends with Dave and working with him to throw this party. Thanks for being there for all my venting sessions, freak out moments, tears, laughs, and excitement.

This year was an incredible event with some incredible musicians who remind us why we throw this event every year. I want to thank you each for being there and making our event special: Meschiya Lake, Lucian Cobb, Molly Reeves, Chloe Feoranzo, Jason Jurzak, Mike Voelker, Dr. Michael White, Ernie Halter, Eli Cook, Ernie Halter, Brother Yusef, Joshua Fialkoff, Eric Heveron Smith, Joe Clark, and Shrimp City Slim.

Parking Information

We are looking forward to seeing all of you lovely folks for HCBX and are so ready to get the party kicked off tomorrow night. Since some of you guys will be arriving early, we wanted to share some parking tips with you that will hopefully make your trip run more smoothly.

#1. Park in a metered spot if you can find one, especially at night. Metered parking is free after 10pm Monday-Saturday & Free all day on Sundays. Please be mindful to read the NO PARKING signs carefully as towing is strongly enforced.

#2. Park in the parking garages. If you don't want to deal with the hassle of metered parking, parking garages are your best bet. Most garages are $16 full day maximum up until 12 pm.
The Visitor Center Parking Garage (73 Mary St) offers a flat rate of $5 if you come in after 5 pm and leave by 3 am. This garage is a short 5 minute walk to our weekend venue!

#3. Carpool if you can! Parking can get expensive if you spend all day downtown. Ride with some friends and save a couple of bucks. You will be glad you did!

--In unfortunate news, Marquise Knox will not be able to join us. He was presented an opportunity to join legendary rock band ZZ Top on tour. Happy REGISTRATION DAY friends! We are excited to make tickets available today at 1PM Eastern Standard Time!

We are so glad to serve the Southeast with some of the fiercest, most soul-shakin blues for TEN YEARS! This is truly our most ambitious event to date featuring tremendous LIVE music ALL weekend long!

As in previous years, we are making available all tiers as a means to help out those that might need assistance. These tiers, however, are not unlimited. If you feel you don't need as much assistance as, for example, a struggling college student, please consider picking up a higher level. Dr. MICHAEL WHITE

Dr. White joins us from New Orleans for his first HCBX, and along with his lecture, will be guest performing with Meschiya and the Little Big Horns!

Dr. Michael White is an accomplished, multi-faceted New Orleans-based clarinetist, bandleader, composer, musicologist, jazz historian, and educator widely regarded as one of the leading authorities and culture-bearers of traditional New Orleans jazz music. He has performed in over two dozen foreign countries, played on over 50 recordings, received countless awards, made multiple national television appearances, and been featured in major media publications.

We are excited to welcome Mr. Knox to Charleston, SC for his first HCBX appearance!

Born in St. Louis, 28 year old Marquise Knox’s talents have earned him performing rights with B.B. King, Pinetop Perkins, David “Honeyboy” Edwards and Billy Gibbons; and have taken him all over the United States, Canada, South America, and Europe. Marquise’s 3rd album, Black and Blue, was released independently on his own record label Knox Entertainment LLC continues to answer the question “Can A Young Man Play the Blues” with a resounding YES with the songs like “One More Reason to Have the Blues” and “Blues Man.”

Brother Yusef was our special guest for our second HCBX, and we are so happy to have him back in the Holy City for our TEN year anniversary!

"Brother Yusef (Southern California) has been described as a master solo guitarist, as well as a uniquely passionate vocalist. His performances are as raw, honest and real as the genre has ever aspired to be. Honed over thirty years, he calls his multifaceted style, fattback blues for it’s a rich mix of Delta, Chicago and Texas blues alongside a hard driving Louisiana stomp. Fattback Blues combines "traditional" fingerpicking and slide guitar playing with the contemporary feel of urban blues, rock and funk. He uses his right hand thumb to beat out a percussive bass-line and shuffle, while the index finger plays rhythm and lead lines, creating a full band sound with a solo guitar."

Brother Yusef joins us for not only performance but lecture, sharing his knowledge and experience in the Blues!

FRIDAY FB ANNOUNCEMENT
Hello Blues Dancers! We are super excited to kick off this incredible weekend. We have a few tips as you make your way to the holy city. We are no longer dancing in the original venue posted. Make sure you check the website for a complete list of updated venues and addresses! Tonight’s dances will be held at Ballroom Dance Charleston located at 2408 Ashley River Road. Please bring your ID to check-in. There will be a dance lesson at 7:00 before the dance begins at 8:00. Food options nearby are slim, but fear not! Check out our food truck, Charleston Caribbean Creole, from 10:00pm-1:00am for your pre-late night noms. If you are staying with a local host, you can meet up with them at the dance this evening. The registration table will be able to help you locate your host. Heads up, Fruteland Jackson will be giving a Blues History lesson at noon on Saturday that you won’t want to miss! Our late night venue on Saturday night will be partially carpeted, so plan your footwear accordingly. And lastly, we want to say thank you in advance for keeping HCBX a safe and fun environment for all. A copy of our expected conduct can be found both on the website and at the front desk.
