One of our little ladies blessed us with a tiny egg today. We found it on top of the chicken coop. Both kids had to pose with it before we had to compost it. It cracked when it hit the coop.

Hello Friends! Just a reminder that I will be starting a new session of classes mid September/early October. I have changed a few things that I am excited to share with all of you.
Our next session of classes will involve 2 hands on gardening classes and one cooking class a month. We will be learning how to make cheese, canning jam, cooking from the garden, and our gardening classes will focus on permaculture. I am looking forward to seeing all of my previous little farmers and meeting all the new ones!

Went to C Bar D this afternoon, came back with 2 new ducklings. These are Indian Runners. They stand up straight and tall, resembling bowling pins and run really fast. It took me about 5 minutes to catch them after letting them down on the grass!
They eat the most bugs and lay the most eggs than any breed, so very beneficial to our little farm. Their mannerisms are much different than the Crested Pekins.

here is a comparison of the ducks at one day old versus almost 4 weeks. One thing I will tell anyone who is thinking of getting ducks, they are messy, p**p everywhere, and will imprint on anyone who handles them a lot.
That is why they followed me into the house. Did you know ducks can jump?

We did a trial run this summer - part one of our summer home school adventures can be found below.
please share with friends or family so they can give advice to other home schooling families and give me some new ideas :)

Thank you all for joining us this summer for the organic gardening classes. We have been busy getting things prepared for the coming fall/winter season. The ducklings have grown SO fast, they are 3 weeks old and about as big as our chickens!

Canning season is here and I am busy, busy stocking the cupboards for the winter. I have a huge list of old and new recipes to try and have already canned dilly beans, pizza sauce, and salsa.

Working on some ideas for fall classes and I am going to have an on going permaculture theme. A fun and very sustainable way of farming for all ages. Some ideas I have been tossing around are soap making and a real working garden. I will keep all of you posted!

Tomorrow will be a fun day here at Garden 118! We will be talking about chickens and ducks and the role they play in organic gardening. Come on by tomorrow morning from 10-12.

Tomorrow will also mark the end of Garden 118's summer classes. We have to finish off our summer classes a week early, but keep checking back through the rest of the year for our fall schedule. Plans are also in the works for a larger working garden and natural play space for the kids.
There will also be plenty of ducky and chicken pics so the kids can keep up with the growing babies!
Also, email me for questions, play dates, party reservations, private classes or any suggestions for the upcoming fall gardening classes.
It has been fun spending my summer with all the wonderful families, I hope to see all of you in the fall and don't forget to stop by tomorrow morning 10-12 and visit the chickens and new ducks and celebrate with ice cream brownie sundaes!

Today at Garden 118 we had fun learning about compost and the benefits, our friends brought over a tiny lizard to release in our main garden, and after class we picked up our super cute Crested Pekins. Meet Mrs. Wimpydimple and Flippy Floppy.
Next week will be our last class. We have to end a week early, but the lesson will be about chickens, ducks and the care and benefits in organic gardening. We hope to see all of you there and I will keep you posted about fall and winter classes.

Another fun class! The worms and bugs in the compost made for a great time with the littles and the older kids loved creating the worm towers and learning about worms. I just love teaching the varied ages and the getting to teach them just a few things about organic gardening makes it even more fun!

Make sure to check out my website, some of the classes are going to change and there are going to be a few more resources and activities for the parents to continue with at home. Can't wait to see you all next week!
