Dr. Bobette Bouton’s. President is the Montgomery County Imaginations Library inspired us this last Thursday about the work they are doing. The shockingly low literacy rates gave us pause and underscore the need to put books in the hands of young children. It was also shocking to learn the poor reading levels of college students. There are currently about 9,500 children receiving the books in Montgomery County. Our club will be supporting Education and Literacy in the coming year and beyond. Literacy is one of Rotary’s seven areas of focus. Thank you Bobette!!

Raleigh Frye, daughter of member Adrienne Frye, has been a welcome addition to our club for several years, sharing riddles and playing “Stump the Club.” She is smart and talented and has grown up. On Thursday she presented a program on the many types of poetry and shared her own. The fun began when she challenged club members to write their own and then share. Wow! What fun! We found we have many good writers and thoroughly enjoyed her special engaging program. Thank you Raleigh! Let’s do this againe

The Public Library is sure more than books! Had a great program by fellow Rotarian and Director of the Montgomery County Public Library, Christina Riedel! She shared details and her excitement about the new branch now under construction in North Clarksville. What a beautiful facility that is both inviting and so functional! The design is forward thinking and so responsive to community needs. We are excited too! Thanks Christina!! Great program!

Dr. John Butler, retired Vice President from Austin Peay and Model-T expert extraordinaire took us on a 100+ year old vacation in a Model-T this morning!
What a fascinating program! We learned so much including specialized camping gear was created to attach to the side of the car. And - - the Ford Model-T truck bed was sometimes converted to an early RV! Plus there clearly was no roadside assistance for a flat! John gifted all of us with his book, “Model T in Trouble” and graciously did a book signing! Thank you John! What a great program!

The tornado in December postponed our club’s food donation targeted for families from several schools. We finished it as an Easter project and delivered food boxes yesterday to New Providence Middle School and St. Bethlehem Elementary. Rotarians Jimmy Trodglen and Pat Donahue made the deliveries. Special thanks to Rotarians Tammy Taliento, LaDonna Dowdy and Stephanie Travis for your help in wrapping this up!

This morning’s presentation by Rick Longton, Chair of the Montgomery County Election Commission was very timely and excellent! The fairness of the process sure passed Rotary’s 4-Way Test! A great note for Tennessee is we have a #1 Ranking in election integrity with a 90 out of 100 score. So informative and a
great explanation of what all states are doing. Glad to be in Tennessee!

Sunrise Rotarians welcomed distinguished local architect Lane Lyle who planned the restoration of the historic courthouse following its destruction in the tornado 22 years ago. Lane recounted the fascinating story of rebuilding the courthouse. His design improved the use of space with great care to restore its original architectural features. Rebuilding included bringing the building up to current seismic and wind standards. He also recounted the impact of 9/11 on security features, bringing it up to ADA standards and the local support to restore this important historic building and symbol of Clarksville. Lane was a roommate of Wade Bourne at the Universiry of Tennessee and designed the Wade Bourne Nature Center where we meet weekly. A wonderful program.

Rotarian Promote Peace and Help With Grants for Rotary Clubs
Who doesn't want to Promote Peace? It's a no brainer as some folks say. Here is an opportunity for you to do so and the first year is completely free for you if you are one of the first 1000 to signup. "Vanity" license plates cost $35 in addition to the regular fees for your vehicle annual registration. The Rotary Clubs of Tennessee are promoting both the Rotary International and Peace.
Scan the code below and register your vehicle for the plate for next year. With 1000 registrations Rotary will receive $35000 to be used for grants to Promote Peace in our own areas. More than 1000 then more money is returned.
Won't you help to Promote Peace? Sign up today.
