To all applicants looking to do their documentation through the mail...do not do your application by hand. There is a reason the State Department does not allow us to submit hand written applications. The major reason being that handwritten applications take longer to enter into their system. You are adding more time to the process by doing the application by hand. Go to travel.state.gov, fill out the form online and you are ensuring yourself that they will put your documentation into their systems quicker than if you did it by hand.

Since the passport agency closed its doors to walk in service on March 19, 2020 we have received many calls from travelers asking when will they return to normal. Each time we respond with "have no idea" or "we don't know". Each time we emphasize that you should still get started by using the mail in process and not wait. However, many have avoided doing so for fear of mailing in the documentation....

At the present time the State Department's EXPEDITED processing is taking 4-6 weeks. Given the U.S. Government's steps detailed in this article and the fact that case numbers are going up worldwide we do expect the process to slow down to the full 6 weeks or maybe even longer. We do expect them to be closer to 6 weeks until the covid numbers go down. We say this because this has been the State Department's trend regarding increased cases since we restarted processing in September of last year.

Obtaining a passport in years past used to be a very easy proposition. You had many options to get the passport done quickly. These included going in person, using a third party service or mailing in the documentation through a post office or county clerk. Due to Covid 19 restrictions the options have dwindled dramatically. Several days processing is no longer an option and the State Department is only allowing for a 4-6 expedite processing....
