🌴 Throwback Thursday - Coronado Edition 🌴

One of Coronado's oldest businesses, Holland's Bicycles, will be celebrating its 100th anniversary this year.

The Holland family opened the store in 1924 as a hardware store that sold paints, phonographs, and bicycles. By the 1950s it was Coronado’s main toy store, and by 1969, the store went all-in on bicycles. Generations of Coronadans have purchased their bicycles from this venerable Coronado merchant.

The store has multiple storefronts in Coronado, but still maintains its original storefront at 977 Orange Avenue as its showroom.

Holland’s faced adversity in its early days; it flooded in 1926, two years after the business opened, and survived the Great Depression, which started in 1929.

The anticipation builds as you approach the top of the Coronado Bridge! From there, you can see the Hotel del Coronado, the Silver Strand, Naval Air Station North Island and the Point Loma lighthouse. Years later, it’s a thrill that doesn’t go away!
