This picture shows the track of a turtle a few days ago on Manatee Beach that not only disoriented (traveled a LONG distance towards lights on the beach—the nest she laid is all the way back by the ATV) but also had to traverse through a hole left by beachgoers before finally finding her way back to the water.
How you can help: ⬇️
🕳 If you dig a hole on the beach, please be sure to fill it in before you leave as it can become a hazard to nesting sea turtles and their hatchlings at night.
🔦 If you plan to be at the beach late, please remember that flashlights are prohibited on the beach because they can disturb turtles that may be nesting a long distance from the light source.
🐢 If you do see a turtle nesting on the beach, please keep quiet, keep your distance and keep your lights and flashes off, and do not get in front of a crawling or nesting turtle.
