GADS Open Source Project

GADS Open Source Project GADS Open Source Project’s mission is to promote openness, innovation and opportunity for collecting, analyzing, and reporting NERC GADS data.

We’re Building a Better GADS Experience™

GADS Open Source Project’s GADS/OS Data Entry, GADS/OS Analysis & Reporting, and GADS/OS Wind™ software give generating companies tools to take control of their mandatory GADS reporting for conventional generating (fossil, nuclear, hydro/pumped storage, combined cycle, etc.) and wind turbine generating units to NERC and the various ISOs. In the power generation industry, it is challenging to find enough resources to address all your needs. On top of that, the power business operates in volatile markets with changing price signals and competitive forces. Energy companies must be prepared to adapt and change to deliver top asset performance. You need to routinely question existing operational and maintenance processes and explore new ways to improve. How can you uncover opportunities to optimize production of your current assets?

An unprecedented array of risks—ranging from capacity shortfalls, extreme weather, extended drought, supply chain issues, cybersecurity, solar PV tripping, fuel constraints, to wildfires—could imperil the reliability of nearly every North American bulk power system (BPS) region west of the Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO) this summer, the North American Electric Reliability Corp. (NERC) warns in a newly released summer assessment.

One of mankind’s great achievements has been the way that, across an ever-increasing part of the planet, we have reached a level of technological sophistication that has meant that we can go about our business without, extreme events aside, having to worry too much about what the weather is doing.

One of the countless ironies running through current climate policies is that that progress may be about to go into reverse, not because of climate change, but because of policies designed to combat it, and, more specifically, what looks more and more like a premature dash into wind energy. One of the triggers of the prolonged energy-price squeeze in the U.K. was the failure of winds over the North Sea to do what was expected of them in the late summer/early fall.

Perhaps ‘leaning on wind farms’ to the extent that the U.K.’s ruling establishment has decided to do was not the wisest course of action.
