We are finishing up our week at solmate and we have worked on a few things to get solmate ready for the exciting summer season! A new house color and freshly painted exterior trim paint, dock repairs that have solidified it an restored water to the sink and hose. New polywood loungers and chairs. New corn hole boards and bags, pressure washing underneath the house, new stain on the concrete underneath the house, and many more small improvements. Also, we have finalized a purchase that should have a customized, brand new 2022 EZ-go gas golf cart that seats 6 available for weekly rental after July 4th. Lifted, upgraded seats, stereo, on board cooler, customized paint, and completely street legal on the island. The cart is at Danny's custom carts being worked on and we can't wait to see the final product!! We are excited about the improvements and are expecting a GREAT summer for all of our guests this summer.. Now, let's hope the hurricanes cooperate!!

Maintenance and summer prep. continues at solmate. We worked on the bistro lighting replacing some blown bulbs and finished our annual replacement of the gas grill. Pressure washed the outdoor TV area and did lots of smaller general maintenance and improvements. The moment a project is finished, the salt air begins it's attack. It's a never ending process of repairing and then replacing items in this harsh environment. BUT, we think it's worth the effort!

Getting solmate ready for the warm weather! All new linens, new sofa and loveseat in the living room as well as new outdoor furniture for the outdoor TV area and a new firepit to replace the one stolen by the Gulf of Mexico in the last big storm. She is almost ready so let warm weather season begin!!

Well, I said gig speed at Solmate by the end of the week but that's not exactly true. 700mps was half the monthly cost of 1,000 mps and after speaking to a friend of mine who is in the business, he convinced me that paying twice as much for that extra 300 mps was absolutely a waste of money for house this size and the number of users and devices that we will have. So, we don't have gig speed as promised BUT, we went from 15mps to 700mps which I think is an improvement that all will appreciate!! 😁.

We are heading down to the island today to do some exciting upgrades! The internet at sol-mate has always been OK but not great due to a lack of providers on the island. We have been using an over the air 5G system that was the best available but still not great with today's expectations! We were first in line when Xfinity said they would be offering gig speed internet on their new digital line infrastructure. Yesterday they ran lines to Solmate and over the next few days we will be installing new high end modems and wifi routers. We expect 1,000 MPS internet speeds at Solmate that will provide coverage everywhere on solmate's property by the end of the week. The dish TV will be gone and all TVs will use streaming services (no cable boxes or multiple remotes needed to operate the TVs anymore!!) . With so many people who are on vacation still needing to check in with work and family, it should make a stay at Solmate even more seamless and hassle free than ever before! We will let you know how it all goes.

A word of caution for those using VRBO and their cancellation insurance. A guest was unable to come to the island due to IDA and has been trying to use his weather cancellation policy (that he purchased with his booking) for weeks now and has gotten nothing but runaround. VRBO aggressively promotes the service but when used, they act like they know nothing about it. "That was purchased through an outside vendor and we have nothing to do with it." Typical VRBO where they want to control the entire process UNTIL something goes wrong then they say that they are just a payment processor. SOL-MATE is a 3 bedroom, 2 bath vacation rental on the water. Sol-mate is located on Dauphin Island off the coast of Alabama. The home sleeps 8 comfortably.

Day 6 on the island and maintenance has far outpaced the hammock time! We have been doing endless little touchup items to get solmate in top shape for the prime summer season. Solmate was still in good shape but the two hurricanes last season had left her a little bruised. It feels good to freshen her up and get that sharp edge back! 2 more days on the island and then we turn her back over to our guests to enjoy and make memories! As soon as you finish a project, the water and salt air immediately begin to eat away at your work but, we are very happy with her condition and know our guests will have great trips this summer!!

Finally heading back down to sol-mate today after a long absence!! Covid caused us to swap a lot of dates from last spring and a lot of our trips were rescheduled so that other guests could still have a vacation.. Other than a couple of days to swap linens and critical maintenance (hurricane repairs) , it's been almost a year since we have spent quality time at sol-mate!! Hoping the maintenance needs are small and the hammock time is ample! I will post updates on new things on the island while we are down..
