Congratulations Glenn and Thank you! π
Long-time Port Commissioner Glenn Leland was recently honored with the Agriculture Hall of Fame award by the Moses Lake Chamber of Commerce. This award recognizes his substantial contributions to the community and the lasting legacy he has built for our region. Throughout his tenure at the port, Glenn played a crucial role in establishing essential infrastructure and facilities for various organizations and entities, including the Mattawa Community Medical Clinic, Grant County Housing Authority, Mattawa Area Food Bank, Grant County Fire District No. 8, Grant County Sheriff Substation, Big Bend Community College, Wahluke School District, Waste Management, Desert-Aire Airport, Milbrandt Vineyards, Taylor Orchards, Jones of Washington, and Ginkgo Winery. In addition, he has been pivotal in aiding the development of numerous small businesses.
Born to Norwegian immigrant parents, Glenn firmly established himself in Mattawa when he founded his farming operation in the 1970s. Alongside cultivating a diverse range of crops such as corn, wheat, buckwheat, peas, beans, and apples, he has also been dedicated to raising four sons. Beyond his agricultural endeavors, Glenn is a founding member of the Mattawa/Desert-Aire Lions Club and has played a pivotal role in awarding numerous scholarships to deserving students. Additionally, he has taken on the role of refereeing soccer games, showcasing his commitment to community activities.
Our heartfelt gratitude goes out to the Moses Lake Chamber of Commerce and Susan Parker for their steadfast support for this award. We would also like to acknowledge his son, Martin Leland, for his moving speech during his ceremony.
