Yesterday, City staff and Prairie Restorations, Inc. completed controlled burns at three pollinator meadows – two sites at Hartley Park along Old Hartley Road and Soapbox Knoll, and one at the western end of Waabizheshikana: The Marten Trail. The burns went as planned and we look forward to watching the regrowth in the coming weeks.
Check out this short video for some clips of Fire Marshal Lisa Consie and Senior Parks Planner Jim Shoberg describing the process and purpose of the controlled burns.

Celebrate Arbor Day 2020
It’s Arbor Day in Duluth!
We are not hosting any in-person celebrations this year so the City Forester, Clark Christenson, wanted to take a moment to educate folks on what the progression of Emerald Ash Borer infestation looks like in our ash tree population.
Learn how you can manage ash trees on your property at www.duluthmn.gov/eab #ArborDay Giveaway!
As City crews remove boulevard ash trees we are also replacing them with new trees! Did you know that a newly planted tree needs at least 10 gallons of water a week? Get your reLEAF Duluth 5-gallon watering bucket (while supplies last!) by emailing [email protected]
The Water Cycle
Lake Superior influences how we experience the water cycle along the shore. Here, Megan talks about the three main components of the water cycle!
Parks Passport: Summer 2020
We are inviting you to participate in our Parks Passport for Summer 2020!
➡️ Download the Parks Passport PDF here: duluthmn.gov/media/9919/parks-passport-1.pdf
Complete these tasks throughout the summer. The first 25 completed Parks Passports to be verified by Duluth Parks & Recreation will receive a free pair of sunglasses!
Once you've completed all activities, contact [email protected] for instructions on how to verify and redeem your completed Parks Passport!
You can also find the Parks Passport on our website: duluthmn.gov/parks/programs-events/general-programs/
