Another video from our 7/16 sunset whale watch.
7/16/24: The fog seemed to be holding strong as we departed on our afternoon whale watch, but luckily it quickly moved off as soon as we entered the Head Harbor Passage. So we made our way to Sandy Ledge and watched some Harbor and Gray Seals along with a close look at an adult Bald Eagle. Then we made our way further out the passage and spent time with 3 different Minke whales. We finished our trip with a pass through the Old Sow whirlpool. I think it's safe to say our passengers had a great time.
We also had a private sunset whale watch with a great family and to say that it was a perfect evening for whale watching would be an understatement. We spent time with a few different Minkes and I actually remembered to pull my phone out to capture the moment.
Had yet another amazing trip this afternoon. Headed out the Head Harbor Passage and picked up 3 different Minke whales. We spent some time with them and then got word there was a Humpback whale way off our beaten path. We decided that it was just close enough that we could make it. So we headed out into the Bay and finally made it to the whale. Once there we shut our engine down and watched the whale. The whale even traveled over and said hi to us. Needless to say, our passengers were quite happy. After the whale moved on, we headed back to Eastport. Can't wait to see what tomorrow brings. 9/3/23 - Busy day on the water with a morning fishing trip, then trips to the salmon farm for the Salmon Festival, capped off with a whale watch. We were able to spend most of the trip with a Humpback whale that teased us the whole trip. It would hunch up really high like it was going to show us its flukes (tail), but it never did. Sometimes they just don't want to show them I guess. We also saw Harbor Porpoise, Seals, and Eagles before the fog shut in tight around us on the trip back to Eastport.
Spent some quality time with our old friend Stumpy the Minke whale (AKA Slice). Minkes usually have a pretty good sized dorsal fin, but unfortunately Stumpy lost his somehow when younger. Stumpy is a great whale to watch every time.
8/11/23- This afternoon's whale watch had us going a little outside our normal route to spend time with Humpback whales. We also saw Harbor Porpoise, Seals, and Eagles. We had a private charter this evening, and were able to spend more time with one of the humpback whales. Great day overall. Though we did get word of a private boat not respecting the whale's space this afternoon and almost hitting it. Thankfully the whale dodged the boat. PLEASE, if you decide to go out watching whales on your own, give the whales plenty of room. Your cell camera has zoom, we know because we use ours, so you don't need to be 10 feet from the whale to get that perfect photo. :)
We've had some amazing sightings the past few days. But today our passengers got a treat when Eastport was visited by a rare Northern Right Whale. We also spent time with our friend Stumpy the Minke whale, lots of Harbor Porpoises, seals, and eagles.
Here's another video of the Humpback whale showing off on our 9/22 whale watch. I forgot to mention on my original post that this Humpback actually did a full breach, but it was out of the blue, so nobody was ready and filming.
Remember when we said that it was going to be such a nice day out and you should go whale watching with us today? Well it was probably the most perfect September whale watching day so far. Once again we hit the "Grand Slam" of whale watching with 4 Minke whales, 4 Finback whales, 2 Northern Right whales, and a Humpback whale. It was amazing! Plus lots of Eagles and a few Porpoise and Seals thrown in for good measure. We're doing it again tomorrow at 1:30pm, so don't kick yourself and spend your Sunday afternoon with us.
Here's a video we shot this afternoon. We were lucky enough to have the Humpback swim right by us while we were sitting still.
Monday's trip included some up close and personal time with a couple of Finback whales.
