(ECAHMAA) strives to actively assist Southeast Asian families to become socially and economically self-sufficient.

The Building Bridges Program, a partnership of UWEC and the Eau Claire Area Hmong Mutual Assistance Association, is accepting applications for the Fall 2011 semester. The program provides hands-on experience in working with culturally different populations. It provides a great opportunity to work with children, adolescents, and their families. It allows university students to go into the homes and witness first-hand a culturally different setting and life-style. It gives university students first-hand experience and provides opportunities for students to practice: Interpersonal Communication Skills Cross-cultural Communication Skills Interviewing Skills Documentation Skills It allows university students to learn and gain exposure to the “realities” and experiences of a minority group such as the Hmong and thus develop a greater understanding of ethnic minorities.
