During lunch with a group of northern Italians (we were hiking around Ragusa), I ate this cannolo made with the milk from Modican cows. They are a beautiful breed that are chocolate colored. This cannolo was very, very fresh. The shell reminded me of graham crackers, with a lot of cinnamon... Which is very nice. I might guess there was some nero d'Avola wine in the mix too. The cream was wonderfully light and fresh. Not too sweet, since the ricotta didn't need it. It spoke for itself.

Highlights from yesterday's New York City Cannoli Crawl walking, food, and history tour. We started at Caffè Reggio (Pasticceria Rocco is on vacation.) and were swept up in the excitement of the San Gennaro Feast. What a wonderful group of people! We ate outstanding cannoli and remarkable savory foods. We laughed. We enjoyed each other's company. I even danced a tarantella! Which cannoli is the best? Come on the Crawl to find out! Upcoming Dates~~Reserve for you and your loved ones now at https://experiencesicily.com/events/new-york-cannoli-crawl/

OK, OK... Normally I would just say no. But my curiosity got the best of me. This. Is. A. Vegan. Cannolo. Yes, it is. And it was tasty. Made with cashew cream, cinnamon, and something else (obviously chocolate chips and a vegan pastry), despite the fact that the shell was soggy (I'm letting that go, since this is in a coffee bar on the boardwalk in Asbury Park, NJ, and if it wasn't vegan, I would not have touched it!), the texture of the cream was impressive. Would I make a habit of this? No. But for my vegan friends, there is hope!!

When making cannoli, you want to wrap them a bit loose around the form. But not too loose! There's an art to it. And be sure to use your egg wash to seal the ends to the rest of the dough. You don't want the canal to open while it's in the fryer.

It's out!
