Campfire restrictions will be in place starting July 9th in Olympic National Forest and Olympic National Park (including the coast!). This means campfires are ONLY allowed in established fire rings in designated areas.

All backcountry and dispersed area campfires will NOT be allowed, including the use of charcoal grills or other equipment that creates ash. Gas or propane camp stoves with a shut-off valve or lever that extinguishes the flame immediately are permitted in these areas but should be operated well away from flammable vegetation and forest litter. Extreme caution is urged with any open flame.

Fire Crews from Washington State Department of Natural Resources continue to mop up the fire we had in the 4th of July. They have pumps in the river and are soaking the hot spots!

Bogachiel Way Fire update Wednesday, July 5

DNR Image shared from the morning Helicopter flight.

Fire is 100% contained per DNR. They will be focused on mopping up and putting out these hot spots and expect to be on-site through the weekend. DNR has their four engines, calling back two camp crews, and there are two Forks/Beaver tenders on scene as well.

Already the community is taking care of meals, water and snacks for the crew with that planned to continue through the weekend.

A volunteer from the 4th Demo-Derby Concession stand shared that the remaining burgers that they were unable to use yesterday will be cooked up and delivered to fire crews today, as well as other concession stand items.

The Red Cross is leaving the water and snacks they brought out late last night. Those will be used as part of the mix for the work ahead that DNR is leading.

The QVSD shelter will be kept mothballed throughout today and will be reassessed later today.

Smoke is hanging in the valley here.

Fingers crossed that the weather favors the hardworking fire response crews.

CLALLAM COUNTY BURN RESTRICTIONS EFFECTIVE TODAY

The Clallam County Burn Restrictions will take effect June 14, 2023 and run through October 1, 2023, unless conditions warrant a total burn ban.

‼ A notice of importance in the burn ban is the inclusion of propane w**d burners. The county has fielded many inquiries about their use, and it is the belief that they pose a significant risk as typically they are used on driveways where fire protection is not always readily available to prevent accidental spread to adjacent combustibles/dry grass, etc.

Stay safe and try to provide at least 30’ of defensible space around all structures to provide an opportunity to fight a fire if necessary.
