Below the summit, at the doorstep of Huntington Ravine, sits The Harvard Cabin β€” a remote respite for ice climbers and backcountry skiers to escape the elements. This film is an ode to the Caretakers that care for it, the men of Harvard that built it, and the mountaineers that rely on it. β€œThe C...

Thanks for having us! Looking forward to working with you again this season.

Today, the MWAC staff conducted yearly Search and Rescue and avalanche safety messaging training with our partners from and . This awesome group is on the front-lines of visitor information and interactions and help to ensure that effective and timely safety information is available to those headed into the MWAC avalanche forecast area. Don’t forget to stop in the Pinkham Notch Visitor Center to say hi and check conditions this winter!

Our routine avalanche advisories and forecasts will begin when snowfields in the Presidential Range have some more time to develop. Until then, be sure to make your own safety assessments of snow, conditions, and weather - and make sure you have the right equipment before heading out into the mountains.

See you this winter!

With only one month till we open for the season, we thought we would share this photo, which was shot last year of two ice climbers just below the fan in Huntington Ravine heading toward Central Gully. We can’t wait to see you all at the cabin this season!

We have been hard at work at the Harvard Cabin this past summer completing a long overdue project of building a new privy, pictured here. This project is one of the largest undertakings since the cabin was built in 1962. Our new privy was built from funds from a GoFundMe campaign that we commenced last fall along with a grant from Access Fund. The build took 15-volunteers 8-days, split into two 4-day work sessions, to build. A huge thank you to all the community members who helped out with the build. We are super stoked for the completion of this project and for opening this winter on Dec. 1st.

Harvard Cabin had the first ever Ham Radio test-session-on-the-mountain - with new hams getting their tickets today! Congrats to those who took the test! We look forward to talking to you on the airwaves. They join the many hams recruited out of Harvard Cabin - including several HMCers. We even had the 6th grade son of the Darn Tough founder (the best socks ever) join us for the test. Kudos to him for fearlessly jumping in, even though he just discovered Ham Radio today. Hopefully, he got bit by the radio bug.

The test was administered by our local club, W1MWV, with a visiting ham from Connecticut. Thanks to Vinny, Greg and Marcia for being the examiners!

Congratulations to HMCers Hollie and Dave!

Yesterday was a very cool day. Well yes, it was literally cold, but David and Hollie had a vision of getting married at one of their favorite places in the world, and that is the infamous Mount Washington. Thus, they asked fifteen of their nearest and dearest to attempt hiking up to the the Harvard Cabin with them to be apart of their "I do's". It was an amazing morning! It was cold but no wind, everyone marched up there at a solid pace, and they had a beautiful outdoor ceremony where they became husband and wife. More to come as they continued their celebrations at the Hardy Farm, but a huge congrats to David and Hollie! We will always vividly remember this adventurous winter wedding and fantastic couple! Here they are in front of the Harvard Cabin! Special thanks to Meg Simone Wedding Films for helping me shoot, and also my husband Bayard and Meg's partner Dave who were apart of our support/assistant crew!
