“Not everyone can be famous but everyone can be great because greatness is determined by service. You only need a heart full of grace and a soul generated by love.” ~MLK

Everyday think about the little (and big) things you do to be great. Our actions and words make a big impact on those around us.

Have a great one!

The Guilford Police Department is proud to provide our community with a safe exchange location for items purchased over various internet sites.

Internet purchases with local pick up are extremely popular, but finding a safe place for the exchange can be challenging. Our front parking lot has two parking spaces prominently placed in front of cameras for our residents who are making purchases or selling items.

Thank you for sharing and stay safe :)

Bishop's Orchards Farm Market

"IF SATISFIED TELL OTHERS, IF NOT TELL US"..And we hear you loud and clear!

We've been a family-run farm for 144 years, yet we still learn lessons...every day.

After months of discussions and consulting with industry advisors, this past weekend, we instituted an orchard/maze entrance fee to try to cover the rising cost of providing wagon rides at pick your own and losses caused by less respectful visitors to our farm.

However, we learned that our efforts to protect the farm and keep costs down, made the apple-picking experience out of reach for families... just like ours... and there's no way that could continue.

So, we met in the barn this morning and decided to waive all fees to enter the orchard this year, period. We will work in other ways to educate our customers to minimize wastefully picking and behaviors which rob others of a fun and rewarding experience.

This year is one of our largest and best crops, with our signature variety, Macouns ready this weekend. We have added more wagons to reduce waiting times, and upgraded our checkout system to 4 lanes due to checkout delays at peak periods.

From our family, to yours, thanks for your patience and we look forward to seeing you this coming weekend.

Keith, Sarah, Carrie and Jonathan Bishop.

Join the fight to stop robocalls!

www.EndRobocalls.org

[TAKE ACTION] New technology may not be perfect, but right now I need to see a real reduction in the obnoxious robocalls that interrupt my day and introduce me to scammers. The phone companies should be taking the lead, not making excuses.

Henry Whitfield State Museum

Don't miss MEET A LIGHTHOUSE KEEPER at the Henry Whitfield State Museum on Sunday, August 16 between 10 am and 4 pm.
Learn about what it was like to be a lighthouse keeper in the 19th century from a costumed interpreter. Find out what life was like at isolated lighthouses like the one on Faulkner's Island in Guilford. Ask about what happened at the light during the War of 1812, about ship wrecks and rescues, about daily life and about the many tasks it took to keep the light burning. Also on display at the museum during the months of August and September is the exhibit FAULKNERS ISLAND LIGHTHOUSE. Both the exhibit and the light keeper program are included with regular admission to the museum.
