Earlier this month, I had the pleasure of escorting a small group of travel advisors on our Historic Mississippi itinerary, aboard the beautiful American Melody. After a night at the Intercontinental, we sailed six nights on the Lower Mississippi, roundtrip New Orleans, enjoying not only a culinary- and wine-themed trip (complete with an accomplished sommelier!), but many new and engaging excursions in each port along the way. From learning to make delicious jambalaya in a Cajun village to a ranch adventure featuring axe throwing and mud-splashing ATV rides to the elegance and ghost encounters of The Myrtles, much fun was had, history was learned, and many pictures were taken. There's nothing like experiencing it yourself to make you a believer... come aboard and find out!

I spent last week (12/8-15) aboard the American Eagle, sailing from Charleston to Amelia Island on the Historic South & Golden Isles itinerary. That one was on my wish list and it did not disappoint!
We were being chased by a "dry gale", so skipped Hilton Head, but that gave us extra time in Savannah, which wasn't a bad thing! The captain and crew did an excellent job navigating the weather and strong winds that accompanied us on the second half of the journey, keeping our sailing smooth.
Excursions were engaging, from Savannah After Dark to kayaking in Amelia Island. The ship is beautiful and so comfortable, the crew was warm and friendly, the onboard expert and onshore guides brought history to life, and the food caused me to question my packing (looser pants would have been smart!). I highly recommend both this itinerary and the cool, new Coastal Cats. Here are some pics from along the way:
