RAGS & RICHES:

Brothers, Tanner and Peyton Whitt, performing as the adrenalized alt-pop duo RAGS AND RICHES, aim to bring hope and inspire a generation of dreamers. Hailing from Lexington, Kentucky, these brothers aren't just making music—they're crafting anthems that ignite souls. From the moment they unleashed their debut single, "Speed of Sound” in 2019, the world took notice. With over 930K+ streams and 525K+ video views for "SOS," they set the stage for an explosive breakout unlike any other.

Picture this: 300+ shows, 40 states, and the adrenaline rush of sharing stages with legends like Smash Mouth, Fitz & The Tantrums, and Judah & The Lion. It's not just about the music; it's about connecting with audiences on a deeper level, leaving them energized and inspired. When the duo isn’t rocking stages—they're smashing records too. Winning a Josie Music Award for Pop Artist of the Year, 3 Lexington Music Awards for Pop Artist of the Year (2X Winner) & Song of the Year, clocking in over 5MIL+ career streams, and racking up 2.4MIL+ video views all in just 5 short years. They truly are a force to be reckoned with.

Their debut album, "Always Gold," dropped in June 2022 via SonaBlast! Records, and the response was nothing short of mind-blowing. With 1.4MIL+ streams in its first week, it's clear that their sound resonates with fans on a cosmic level. But perhaps the most thrilling chapter yet? The release of their 8-track EP, "I NEED A HOLIDAY," in December 2023. With 1.2 million streams in its debut week, it's a testament to their raw talent and infectious energy. And let's talk about their playlist prowess in 2023. Landing on Apple Music's coveted New In Alternative with “Hello, Goodbye”, snagging a spot on Spotify's Nu Disco playlist with "Flavor" and another Spotify powerhouse playlist, it's alt good with "holiday.," they continue to push boundaries and redefine the alt-pop landscape.

Tanner and Peyton aren't just brothers making music—they're dreamers, creators, and trailblazers. And as they continue to rise, one thing is certain: their journey is just beginning.

We want to allow visitors to see Harlan County through the eyes of a local. It is one thing to see Harlan through pictures and posts, but it is another thing to live in and experience Harlan on a day-to-day basis. By interviewing locals in our Local Love project, we hope to share a bit of why Harlan is so special. ⛰️💛

This week, we interviewed Mrs. Leslie Goss. Goss is a third-grade teacher at Harlan Elementary School and a Harlan native.

06/17/2024

🎉🎉 The Kentucky Department of Tourism recently released the economic impact numbers for the state and individual counties in Kentucky for 2023 and Harlan County had a banner year!

Harlan County has:
▶️304 jobs associated with tourism;
▶️$6.1 million in labor income;
▶️$3 million in state and local taxes;
▶️$38.4 million in tourist spending;

Harlan County is also the 5th HIGHEST GROSSING in TOURIST SPENDING in our 18 county region!

This huge accomplishment could not be possible without all of the folks working hard every day to ensure that our county is welcoming, fun, and a destination for visitors. This includes everyone from the City of Harlan Tourist and Convention Commission, the City of Cumberland Tourist and Convention Commission, the City of Evarts Tourist and Convention Commission, and the Harlan County Tourist and Convention Commission. This accomplishment is also in part of the unifying force of our attractions such as the Black Mountain Off-Road Adventure Area, Black Mountain Thunder Zip Line, Portal 31, Kingdom Come State Park, Pine Mountain Settlement School, Dragon Slayer Hwy 160, Backroads of Appalachia, Camp Blanton, Martins Fork Lake, Kentucky Coal Museum, English Creek Stables, the Harlan Center, Harlan Country Club, Sleepy Hollow Golf Course, and many others we have surely forgotten. We also have to include all of our lodging partners in this accomplishment which includes the Quality Inn, the Rodeway Inn, Benham Schoolhouse Inn, Harlan Campground - Putney Trailhead, The Little Inn of Harlan, Pine Mountain Settlement School, and others! We also have to acknowledge all of businesses and restaurants that serve our tourists such as Harlan County Beer Company, Sassy TRASH LLC, Rail House Grill, Rax Restaurant Harlan, Ky, Sports Cafe & Catering, Luigi’s - Cumberland, KY, Suzy Q’s Pizzeria & Cafe, Hill & Holler, Raven Rock Coffee, Cafe, & Curiosities, Moonbow Tipple Café & Books, Sonwood's, BelindaBelles & Henson Florist, Village Center Mall, PB&J Monogramming, Rhonda's Merle Norman, Mountain Merch, My Sister's Closet, Southern Ruckus, The Hungry Goats Good food and Catering restaurant, Dairy Hut, The Portal, and so many more that we KNOW we cannot list all in this post. We also want to recognize all of the folks who organize our events that take place in Harlan County as well. From the Poke Sallet Festival, The Festival of the Mountain Masters, 4th Fest, PossumFest, Dog Days of Kentucky, Kingdom Come Swappin' Meetin', events at the Off Road Park, golf tournaments, and so many others - you're working hard to bring folks into our community! Of course, the support of our cities, elected officials, and councils are all instrumental in tourism being an incredible economic engine in Harlan County!

Let's continue to work together and continue to foster tourism as an economic engine for Harlan County! Again, no businesses or attractions were meant to be left out on purpose. We realize that every partner we have is instrumental in making our community the vibrant destination that it is.
