Storm was coming in from the South yesterday and made these pictures really interesting. Blue skies over the lake and darkness overhead looking up at The House. Rain didn't last long but the look, feel and smell is always welcome out here.

The old fire pit- thing served admirably over the last 2 years but it was time to do something more permanent and less susceptible to the elements. Also a lesson learned about managing one of these things. Replaceable things that can be swapped for permanent solutions is always a project worth doing

Guests this morning had a visitor and an education about bear-bars on dumpsters. His look over the shoulder as he hauls away his score is admittedly pretty hilarious.

If you boat around Round Lake, and you totally should, you'll see a lot of pretty impressive places. Most of these have done some pretty extensive landscaping in the front yard as well, which looks great but comes at the cost of the trees and foliage that naturally grow by the water. It also comes at the cost of your privacy, definitely not a problem at this place. The man who designed and built this wonderful place wanted it that way and appreciated the understated look it created from the water. This is such a meaningful part of the experience of staying here, you feel like you have the area all to yourself. And when you stand on the deck and look out, you lose none of the views that people come for. Come stay, bring a boat or rent our own and you'll be glad you did.

This is Ernie. Our family rescued him over the winter and this is his FIRST-EVER boat ride, with some beef and cheese snackies, no less. The pontoon is now in the water and running great, available for rent to all our guests at The House on Round. With a couple bars/restaurants on beautiful Round Lake, no better way to enjoy lake life in style than cruising around the water on this fine vessel. 🦮

Part of what makes The Round Lake Retreat so unique is the connectedness to nature you feel while there and the trophies that adorn the walls taken right from the Hayward area. Our father, who designed and built the home, was an avid sportsman and loved being in Hayward more than anywhere else in the world. These are some of his collections and finds that you can see while staying there that are a great reminder of the wildlife that surrounds you and the possibilities for any aspiring sportsman that wants to come stay. Happy New Years Folks! Just wanted to share a personal experience from my stay at the Retreat last month. This is my dog, Margot and she had an absolute blast being at the cabin, in the woods, and playing in the snow. Unfortunately, at the very tail-end of our stay, she somehow contracted a stomach infection that led to her stomach "flipping" and put her in very dire straits. The good news is that Hayward has one of the best Veterinary doctors in the business at Hayward Animal Hospital just a few miles away on Highway B. Dr. Ostrander and his fantastic staff got Margot in right away, identified the problem and performed the emergency surgery as fast as a very nervous dog-dad could possibly hope for. Pets are of course welcome at this beautiful place and this extra sense of security is just an added benefit to coming to stay with your whole family, pets included. Not even 2 weeks after her surgery, Margot is completely recovered and back to romping in the snow, sniffing ALL the smells and having the time of her life.

This picture is less than 10 minutes old. I'm sitting in the great room on a rather banal conference call for work and saw movement out of the corner of my eye. Lo-and-behold I see this guy running up through the yard from the lakeside headed North. Jumped out of my chair and managed to snap a fairly clear shot of one of the neighbors just going about his day. Takes a sucky work-day to a much better one in an instant when this kind of thing can happen anytime. Fortunately, the hound-dog didn't see him and go berserk, but she'll definitely be sniffing those tracks in the morning! Weekday rates are FANTASTIC and the Wifi is more than strong enough to hold up a video call. Come on up and stay and save the PTO.
