7:41 UPDATE: Sandbags will be available at Wayside Park tomorrow from 10AM-6PM.

PTC #4 | UPDATE # 1 | 8/2/24 5:05PM

Your High Springs Fire Department continues to monitor Potential Tropical Cyclone (PTC) #4, currently pushing West-Northwest through Cuba.

Please be wary of social media "experts" proclaiming the next apocalypse. There remains a large degree of uncertainty regarding the exact track of the storm, and specific effects to our area from it.

The primary concern for this storm will be rain. But again, how much exactly still varies wildly. Shifts in the storm track will impact how much rain we may see.

Continue to follow official forecasts from the National Weather Service in Jacksonville and the National Hurricane Center. We of course will continue to keep you updated.

To ensure you are receiving timely updates, please sign up for HS ALERTS at HSALERTS.COM

Next update tomorrow afternoon, breaking news at once.

TROPICAL STORM DEBBY UPDATE # 3 | 8/3/24 5:30PM

As of the 5 PM advisory, PTC #4 has been upgraded to Tropical Storm Debby. Debby is expected to make landfall late Monday morning in the Big Bend area, west of Perry.

The biggest concern for High Springs remains heavy rain. The ground is already well saturated, heightening the chances for flooding, especially in low-lying areas or areas with poor drainage. Strong, gusty winds are also possible, especially on Monday, increasing the chances of power outages.

Sandbag operations will resume tomorrow from 8 AM to 2 PM, or until bags run out, at Memorial Park, 17380 NW US HWY 441. Please remember that this is a self-serve operation. Bring your shovel. LIMIT 10 BAGS PER VEHICLE. Please be considerate of your neighbors and only take what you need.

COLUMBIA COUNTY RESIDENTS: Sandbags will be available at Fort White Community School tomorrow from 7 AM to 5 PM. Follow Columbia County Florida Emergency Management for more information.

GILCHRIST COUNTY RESIDENTS: Sandbags are available in Trenton at Southeast Park. Follow Gilchrist County Emergency Management for more information.

Please complete preparations around your home by tomorrow afternoon. Have flashlights ready and ensure your mobile devices are fully charged in the event of a prolonged power outage.

Most importantly, Be calm. Be kind. Be patient.
